Drain out the gas from the tank and bowl on the carb as E10 is only good for days . If you can get gas without ethanol it will last a year and with Sta Bil it should be fine during the winter . Seafoam is a fuel system cleaner .

I have two five gallon gas cans I keep gas in for my lawn mower, they sit for a lot longer than days and I have never had a problem running the gas out of them in anything I need gas for. Where I live you have not been able to buy gas with no alcohol in it for decades, I have never heard anybody where I live complain about it going bad or causing problems with rotting rubber parts in the fuel line.

I am not a believer in Mechanic in a Can normally, but I have used Sea Foam in everything I own since 1992. I was introduced to seafoam from a Seafoam rep when it was only available from parts stores. I orginally used it as an injector cleaner for automotive and found it did what it was advertised to do. That winter I tried it in my Harley for winter storage. Up here in Wisconsin the winters are long and we all know what todays fuel is like, and I was having problems with spring start up. Come spring, the Harley fired right up and purred like a kitten. From that point forward Seafoam is all I use. It is also a fuel stabilizer, listed right on the can. Every scooter or motorcycle I sell here leaves with seafoam in the tank. I also tell my customers to use it to prevent carb issues, some listen and some don't. I can tell the ones that don't because I see them every spring with carb issues.
The proceedure I use is a full can of seafoam in a 5 gallon can of gas. Fill the tanks and take the machines out for a 5 to 10 mile run. Bring them in, shut off the fuel ( machines with manual petcocks ) disconnect the batteries and let them sit until the weather is better.
I will also say, if you already have carb issues, most of the time Seafoam or any other product, is not going to fix it. These products are meant to be used to keep systems clean. Fuel injection is different due the to fact that there is fuel pressure forcing the fuel thru the injector, in that instant, seafoam does clean very well.

Seaform is what i use and i have not had to work on my scooters carb.- 3 years running. Like Jim, i too was in auto repair and the Maco guy gave the shop owner a free can. The shop owner asked me to use it on the shops loaner car (80's Buck skylark S/W) that was in need of a tune-up. I laughed and told him im going to flag .5 Hr's for this BS, he said fine and off i went. I did just what it said to do on the can to be fair and it worked very well to my surprise.
That's what sold me and it does what it says it does.

Sta-Bil is garbage, I get a fair amount of service work in the spring from folks that use sta-bil. I used to recommend it until I saw the spring carbs that used it during a hard winter. I'm with Jim and Lar-ball, Sea-foam is where it is at. Farmers have been using it for years. A cap full in a scooter tank does wonders for the fuel system any time of year. I have not had gas go bad in the can over the winter, but in small quantities in tight spaces mixed with aeration like what is present in the carb, it can gum up in weeks without an additive. Another thing some of the motorcycle shops do is drain the gas and winterize it with racing fuel, that stuff doesn't break down like blended gasolines do. Get some awesome horsepower for that first Spring ride too

Doug the " day shelf life " is what ether epa or doe.gov stated and I just repeated it . It also said E10 ( gas with 10% ) ethanol can absorb water 20 times more than gas with out it . They are talking about going to E 15 in the future . I know not all gas is the same as I can tell the diff on how my scoots run . I used to use Amoco since it was good and the premium had a clear glass window in the gas nozzle with balls that swirled so one could see its clear . Well Amoco gas is now terrible even though some stations claim their premium is ethanol free . I have several in town that are ethanol free and wow my scoots run so much better . The ethanol can be a solvent on cheap rubber fuel lines on some small engines and the tiny particles can clog up the jets in the carb . I have fuel line from Oreillys on my 2T along with a golden cone fuel filter . I looked up " YY50QT-21A " which is on the side of my Jonway Magnum and saw there was a recall about the fuel lines as to why I replaced them and the vacuum hoses . I learned my lesson getting gas from a shady place as it had water in it and my scoot would not start the next morning after running perfect the night before . I drained the tank and carb bowl , refilled with nonethanol and tada , it fired right up . Shell and BP are ok but my scoots like QuickTrips gas . I go to QTs often since its close , store is always clean and clerks are friendly . The ethanol free stations are on the other side of town that have premium as some places only offer pure gas in 87 and I only use premium . I have used SeaFoam for years after a buddy used it in his car and it made it run so much better than it was running . I use it to keep the fuel system clean as a preventive maintenance . I have not tried it as a long storage fuel stabilizer but I have used StaBil for years in my lawn mowers . Walmart has SeaFoam cheaper than auto part stores . When I worked at Jiffy Lube they had a 3 part EFI cleaner , 1 bottle added to the gas , the 2nd into the oil , and the 3rd I removed the vacuum hose from the brake booster and had it get sucked up through the hose . I would need to have some one hold down the gas pedal to a fast idle speed as it would stall if I did not keep moving the hose in and out of the bottle . I first kept the hose in the bottle and it would stall a car regardless of the RPMs . What was neat is the intakes would often have frost form on the outside of them . Adding ethanol first sounded like a good idea since they said it had less emissions . Well you get less MPGs as it burns up faster , can cause problems in small engines and is a scam to make the price of corn go up . They should use only GMOs for that and we only eat heirloom corn

Anyone ever used Startron? I was debating this or Sea Foam.

My favorite method is to add about a cup of motor oil per gallon to the fuel, completely fill tank and then drain the fuel lines and carburetor. I have had motors sit for years and start right up after a little priming the next time I used it. Yes, kind of smoky but only for one tank full.

We use both as a premix to the gas we put in every scooter we rent, sell, or work on.
We have had scooters sit for 6 months with nothing else done. Charge the battery or kick it over and it starts right up. Assuming there isn't a mouse living in the intake. True story.

Anyone ever used Startron? I was debating this or Sea Foam. Star tron is great. We started really pushing it in our shop about the middle of the summer. People love that it treats 6 gallons from a one ounce bottle. Can't give an opinion as to it being better or worse than Sta-bil. It does not do the same things as Sea Foam so not really a comparison.
