I took a ride to the store(about a mile and a half). On the way back as I was almost home, a small pickup truck Just came out of a sidestreet right in front of me. I broadsided it right behind the passenger door. Scooter is totalled! it desintegrated.Thankfully I wasn't hurt bad. just bruised up. The driver asked me about the bike, and gave me all the cash he had at thee time $840.00 and says he will cover the rest to get me a new one. Did not waant to go through insurance. Lucky I was wearing gear. I was doing about 38 mph when i hit him. Now looking at the 150 cc same exact as what I had. imotorsports.net/p671/Raptor-150cc-Scooter-(Motorcycle).htm

Front tire and forks took most of the impact. Good thing there was only pickup bed there, or I'd have planted my face in some steel.

Glad you are OK! I almost broadsided a small pickup last summer. Jumped out right in front of me. Found out the brakes on my little 50cc work pretty darn well! I had been watching him and felt it might happen so I had already started to move my fingers to the levers. I think that made the difference between a hit or a miss that time.

Good Grief! things are getting nuts around here. I'm relieved you're ok (but that was your wise decision to have on the gear rather than luck.) Steel and plastic are much easier to fix or replace than bone. Looking on the "Bright" side you now have your winter project.

Wow Jack, I'm so glad you were wearing your safety equipment, and are alright, too bad about your bike, but you will live to ride again that's the important thing..

Sailracer,
Cheesh! I'm so glad you're OK! Lots of wrecks around the site lately. You'll like the 150! The hardest wrecks to avoid seem to be the guy pulling out right in front of you, and the guy hitting you from behind (whether you're stopped, OR moving...). There is little you can do except be as "heads-up" as possible.
Be sure to get checked over. It IS possible to be hurt and not realize it. Near 40 mph is a NASTY impact, even with protective armor.
Stay safe, heal fast!

Glad you survived.
Been able to avoid those thankfully due to the dual front disks on the bike. A 330 lb scooter with two large disks up front can stop devilishly fast even at interstate speeds. While searching for a new bike give the brakes some consideration especially if you are planning on speed modifications.
Mine got me coming up on the side and from behind. On those your throttle can be your best friend.
Now 3 days later I am having a few body aches from muscles strained keeping the bike upright. You probably want to keep track of your injuries as in a actual collision like yours the chances of you incurring medical costs and losing time from work are greater.

People are distracted this time of year for sure. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, etc are on peoples minds more so than their driving. Potential new riding armor?

sailor, I'm sorry about your accident. Sux for sure. But at least you had on your gear and weren't severely injured. I agree with Leo and rocky though--best to have your doc check you out, just to be certain. Whiplash can sneak up on you several days later.
rocky, I hadn't read that you were hit too. Is that Appi okay?
And here's my recommendation for strained muscles, not that you guys will appreciate it. Fill the tub with the hottest water you can handle, and just lie soaking. Take along a book to read. And just soak 'til it's cool. Best thing for relaxing those muscles and making them happier. Better yet, use a jacuzzi and let those jets shoot that hot water at your sore muscles.
Heal quickly, my friends!

Glad you are okay. I was impressed that the other driver paid you some cash up front, not many would take that responsibility.
Rest and Hot Showers will help those aches and pains, been there, done that!
