I have a fellow rider who keeps his 50 cc scoot in a shed. His 10 yr old son turned on the lights and they were left on for almost a week, hence the three month old maintenance free AGM battery (YTX7A-BS) is completely discharged. With the battery out of his scoot it reads 1.86 volts open circuit (no load). We put it on his Battery Tender and the charger's red LED is flashing indicating that the battery is NOT CHARGING. My digital voltmeter still only reads 1.86 volts even after an hour which confirms the LED indication of NOT CHARGING. My question is this: Is the battery completely shot or is there a way to bring it back to life with a larger charger (ie: one with a higher charging current capacity)? Thanks in advance for any help. We are planning a fall ride together to see the colorful foliage.

High charge? Printed on the battery it says limit the charging current to a maximum of 3 amps for 1 hour. Is this what you mean by "high charge"?

Take it to your local auto parts store and have them charge it. They have far more sophisticated equipment. Or in the past I have hooked one up to a larger battery with jumper cables for a while (your car or truck battery while it isn't running) and let sit for a length of time that felt right... This might bring the voltage up enough to allow the charger you have recognize that it can be charged

If it is broken, you cannot make it worse.
With my Savage with it's 14AH AGM battery I have left the lights on overnight, several times, revived with a 10 amp car battery charger.

What I have found out about the electronic battery chargers, they do not like discharged battery's. I have to use a very old charger that is old school and it works great. New style chargers don't always work. Just my 2c. Enjoy your ride....

For free, you can go to a newer AutoZone if you have one in your area and have them charge it... I have done it many times when I worked for them. If it is able to take a charge, it will, if not they will be able to let you know that your battery is done.

Plug it in parallel with an existing 12V battery. If you have a spare battery, just parallel connect them; but keep your hands on the empty battery. The moment it gets warmer than hand warm, disconnect! You don't want it to explode!
If you have another empty or broken battery, connect them both in parallel and connect those 2 batteries to the charger. The charger should recognize them, it just says your battery is not charging, because the remaining voltage on the 12V is too low.

It is so dead it will need the zombie virus to come back.
It is so dead, even Lazarus could not pull off that kind of resurrection.
It is so dead, it needs a cemetery plot.
It is so dead............
Ok, I gave it a shot.

Thanks to all for your help. I will tell my buddy to take it to AutoZone and see if they can revive it.. The AutoZone near me says scooter batteries are too small to test, though they can try and charge it at least. *shrug*

Well. my buddy's battery has shorted cell so he is holding funeral services this evening. The battery is a Yuasa YTX7A- (12 Volt 6Amp Hour AGM). Any recommendations on best brands, where to purchase? We have postponed our ride scheduled for tomorrow. All advice is most welcomed.[/font}
