Hey everyone. My restoration is coming along well!
Works great and running like a champ so far. I have come across an interesting "gremlin" so far. When the bike is cold, I cannot use the elec start. It will turn over and function, but never fire up. I kick start it and it will usually go on the first kick... maybe 2nd.
After I kick it and let the bike run for at least 30-45 seconds and turn it off, the elec start will fire it up from then on until it sits for 30 mins+.
Any ideas to get me started?
TLDR - Bike fires on kickstart on cold startup but not elec start.

sounds like elec choke is bad. Whats the weather like there. If cold place some heat buy the scoot for a little befor sarting. All you need is a 100 w light siting buy the scoot on the floor for a few.

Interesting thought.... I will see if warming the choke will help and fire it up on the first try.
Would a new choke fix that issue?

Have you checked your valve clearance?

I will see if warming the choke will help Warming the choke definitely will NOT help! The choke depends on temperature, so it's activated when cold. When warm, it's not "choking".

A ENRICHER feeds extra fuel for cold starts WHEN IT IS RETRACTED which means it is NOT HOT. By DEFAULT an ENRICHERs PLUNGER is retracted and in that position it feeds extra fuel for cold starts. ONCE the motor starts it starts to get VOLTAGE to heat up the element and the PLUNGER starts to EXTEND OUT to shut off the EXTRA FUEL within 3-5 minutes. After that it is getting the all the fuel from the PILOT JET. So if you suspect the ENRICHER, take it off and look at it and see if the PLUNGER IS EXTENDED OR RETRACTED: Alleyoop Here is the ENRICHER RETRACTED WHEN COLD ( it feeds extra fuel by DEFAULT): Here is the ENRICHER EXTENDED AFTER 3-5 MINUTES of the motor running ( Cuts off the extra fuel): SO if you take it OUT COLD and it looks like this YOUR ENRICHER IS NOT WORKING.

Jerry - Yes I have adjusted the valve clearances.
Alley - Thanks for the thorough post! I will pop it off and take a look. Off-hand I cannot remember what position it was in.
