Okay, seriously, how do you fill up at all with that thing across there? You just stand there holding the nozzle? Really?? Oh my friends, just cut the bar. Really. Join the ranks of those who just stick in the nozzle, turn it on, then lean against the pump waiting for the click. I'm not kidding. That's really how I pump gas. And I've only spilled gas once when it dribbled out before I put the nozzle in. Wow that's an awful design! >'Kat How can you NOT fill up the tank without holding the nozzle? If you ain't got the bar, the nozzle will go all the way in the tank, usually stopping the flow of the gas, as the tank is only 1 gal (the nozzle perhaps goes so deep that it'll disable at 1/2 gal. Besides, it's only 1-2 gal, which is like what, 30 seconds at most? I usually get extra free gas from those that went before me using your system. The pump shuts down as gasoline enters the vacuum line, and they hang the nozzle back like that. When I take the nozzle, usually a little of gasoline still comes out before the pump is engaged. That's a few ct of free gas!

I dunno, but I don't hold the nozzle. And it fills it full. Clicks off about when it should. I even top it off to the closest even (I'm weird like that). Maybe mine has a longer neck? Special lower section to accommodate the nozzle when filling up? Dumb-blonde luck? Besides, it usually takes a minute or two. So there. Besides #2, you get no extra free gas from me, buddy-buddy. I always lift the hose to ensure there'll be no dribbles on my vehicle. >'Kat

howdy, on the subject of splashing out when full. i find i cannot fill anywhere near full without it bubbling out some. i have a 3.5 gallon tank. i get 60 mpg and here's what i did to avoud the spillover or bubble out. before i fill, i calculate what it should take to fill it, then have the pump attendant(oregon) set the pump to the dollar amount i know will go in the tank. when it is near the amount the pump pressure reduces say a dollar before it gets to the limit so none spills out. so if i drove 150 miles it should take 2.5 gallons or @4.00 a gallon that would be 10.00 dollars. i usually buy 9 bucks worth and fill without concern. OR when the low fuel warning light comes on i know it will take 2.2 gallons to fill it so if i fill soon after the warning light comes on, i know about how much it will take and limit the pump amount accordingly. i know thats kind of ocd behavior but i don't want ANY splash out and go to extremes to avoid it

In the owners manual I think it refers to the bar as the max fill level. Doesn't really block enough to be an anti-siphon sort of thing, I May just cut mine to get it out of the way, I don't like having fuel splashing around and running down the top of the tank.
How do we fill up? Um, yeah, we just stand there holding the nozzle . (No nozzle hold open latches in NY and PA anymore. You do see them occasionally at full service stations with attendants) It's only 1.5 gallons. Only takes a minute or so.
I always get a chuckle when my bill is ~$6 and the person next to me in the big pickup truck pulls away with a $75 total. 37

Mine fills too fast to set it and stand back. I look in the full hole - usually with either sun/safety glasses or even my helmet visor down in case of a big splash-back. 2 gallons in the Xingyue, 1.8 or something in the Znen. 42 in the suburban, 36 in one van, 32 in the other van. On these, I do set the latch to pump and then I clean every window and light and the mirrors, and check the oil. I haven't filled either of the vans for less than $100. I usually get fairly low hoping for a dip in prices. But it never fails, the price will drop the day after I fill it up. I always drain my hose too. At a stop in Ohio the pump was in the process of going to zero and then it stopped at $0.05 and the attendant couldn't fix it, he said it was from the previous customer draining the hose. We left and found another gas station.

howdy, not pointing fingers or calling names, but steves' post lets me know that if i drain the hose after the pump shuts off , i have stolen 5 cents worth from the next customer. not saying i have not done that , in fact i traveled half way across the country many years ago for a total cost of 1 cent per mile and a few times stopped at closed stations and drained the hoses on all the pumps to get to the next one.

I've only seen that happen one time. I have ad to wait in line to get gas -in whichever vehicle- and have seen the customer ahead of me drain the hose, lifting and shaking it, but when I set the pump, I had no issue, the system fills the hose when the counters gets set to $000.00. Even filling the suburban at a prepay pump, where it stopped at $75 so I had to initiate a new sale to get the next $40 or whatever to fill it, I drained the hose at the first cut off and had no phantom charges when I started the second sale.

I usually just fill it up until gas starts spilling and splashing all over my scoot and the ground, that's how I know it's full....

yea i havent filled up before, but if i have to stand there peering down the hole the entire time...somethings gotta give. ill be cutting n chopping before you can say "i was in the pool"

Gosh, steve, I knew vans had bigger tanks, but I never knew a Suburban's tank was that huge. Wow!
As for draining the hose--why assume you're stealing gas from the next person, rather than getting all you paid for? However, me, I'm just concerned about gas dribbling on my vehicles. Don't care about getting that last sixth or twentieth or whatever of a fraction of a gallon. Do care about ruining my car's clear coat or my scoot's plastics. It's bad enough that my car likes to upchuck gas at the click-off, I don't need any extra getting on him.
(and yes, he'll spew, even at the slowest setting. Just something about how the gas intake is shaped. I've gotten REALLY good about hearing the change in pitch as the tank nears full)
(also yes, I had the attendant clean up the dribbled gas off my scooter. But only because he offered, after I asked for a rag to clean it. And it really did dribble quite a bit, more than a few drops.)

I believe that the bar is the absolute highest level of fuel that should be in there. Anything above the bar is too much. That's what it says in the manual for my kymco. Kymco was also thoughtful to put a hole in the bar that a no-lead nozzle will go THROUGH for easier filling... The bar is really just a "FULL" mark so you don't get the tank so full that it seeps out when the scooter is leaned over on the side-stand, or major up and down bumps. On my old 150, I could usually "aim" the nozzle so the gas mostly went around the bar. Then I'd watch until the fuel was near the bar, and finish slow, or in "spurts". I seldom got more than a few spatters around the filler-neck and always kept a paper towel from the window cleaning area handy to wipe up. I think gassing up these scoots is a "practiced art"... LOL! I also go to the nearby Kwik Trip, and once in a while it gets that way. If it got too "frisky" I'd wrap a paper towel from the window cleaning stand around the nozzle and filler hole. It catches "most" of the spray... LOL! Fortunately the old Xingyue had enough room around the bar to get most of the gas past it... I was happy to find out the "new" Kymco has a hole in the bar which the no-lead nozzle fits through. I guess there are still some old-school pumps with "leaded" large-diameter nozzles. That Kymco GTi300 is STILL listed on eBay with NO bids... They are SWEET! You might want to see if they'd do a layaway, or accept payments... I messaged them on the first listing and they seemed to be VERY nice and easy to deal with. Very helpful about setting up delivery, titling, etc. I like the Grand Vista, and I got it for $2,200 minus $350 trade-in for the Xingyue, so with title, tax and everything it cost me less than $2,400 out the door. And, I was able to simply able to ride the old one to the dealer and ride the new one home. And I also have a servicing dealer handy. I couldn't resist that...The 300 on eBay, if it goes for the $2,000 bid will run right at $3,000 with shipping, tax and title. It's MORE than worth it... mph, and 65-70 mpg as compared to 80 mph and 55-60 mpg with the Grand Vista... AND ultra-modern cosmetics and 16" wheels on the GTi 300. The 300 still offers similar convenience to our 150's (without the cumbersome weight and size of the maxi's) but with all the speed of the maxi's. The lower price, and local dealership influenced me to go that way, but that one on eBay is certainly a GREAT scoot at a GREAT price! Something to consider... People around there just aren't looking to buy... They're looking to sell before winter. You might even offer them $1,500 or $1,800 to "buy it now"... Never can tell! Ride safe,Leo

If I had a small pile of cash, I could take a vacation, drive out to Virginia for the gt300, then down to Ashville to visit the GF's sister, then down to Tail of the Dragon, and then home = 2200 miles round trip. 6-ish tanks of gas, a hotel or two... Wishful thinking!

I never seen this bar that you guys were talking about. I can't really show a pic because I tried to break it off and bent it slightly inwards and now have the space to fit the gas nozzle in it, but it was like a mini funnel and initially the gas nozzle at the station could not fit into the hole. It is connected with one piece of metal or something, but hard to break/bend off with the amount of space inside there to move my pliers around in there. The hole was so small, I figure its to fit chinese gas station nozzles and not ours.
