Well it finally happened, I got pulled over last night on my way home from work. Cop said he clocked Fawkes doing 48 mph in a 45 MPH zone... Let me go with a verbal warning.
The first thing the cop said to me besides good evening was "What you got in that thing". It was funny as Fawkes is registered as a motorcycle, he is plated and Insured, and I have my MC's now..
So other than speeding I was completely legal, he had just never seen a small scooter like Fawkes go so fast... Guess Id better slow down..

Welcome back seems the cop was more interested in your scoot than giving you a ticket ^)

Police have been known to pull people over just to checkout a vehicle . I heard stories from Town car and Caddy owners when the bodies changed , before they were used for cabs . The people said the cops just wanted to have look at the cars .
Larry when you see the cop give him a toot and a wave next time you see him .

A friend of mine said she and her boyfriend got pulled over because the cop wanted to see her in her snakeskin pants.

[replyingto=spandi]spandi[/replyingto]LOL no not for three miles over, the cop didn't see the scooter was plated until he had me pulled over.. According to him the speed limit for a scooter was 25 and i was doing 48 when i passed him. It was not until he had me pulled over he realized, that this is a motorcycle it only looks like a scooter.. It was actually kinda funny.. I showed him the plate, registration, my license, and proof of insurance.. I think what got him was this was just not something you see most scooterist having.. The officer let me go with a verbal warning to slow down... Nice to be back guys thanks..

[replyingto=tvnacman]tvnacman[/replyingto]Yea i will wave to him, best to be on good terms with the police, even if legal..
Honest i think the only reason he let me go with a verbal warning was, I was nice to him, was in no hurry, and i had put the effort to make this machine legal.. Something not seen around here, I know that surprised him when all the legality's came out..
I know i gave him something to tell his buddies about when he gets back to the station... heheheheh Love sandbagging...

It all depends upon where you live. For example, I live in Las Vegas, and the restaurant I manage is near a couple of apartment complexes that have some serious drug issues. For the past 5 years I've been riding an electric bicycle, before I recently purchased my scooter. I have been pulled over by the police on my electric bicycle 7 times, but never ticketed. I have several friends on the police force here (regulars in my restaurant I've gotten to know over the years), and I've asked them why I would be pulled over. They are blunt but honest about it, I'm a skinny white man on a bike near apartments with a known drug problem, so I can expect to be checked out.
One time I had stopped to pick up a tie down strap on the road that had fallen off a vehicle, and they pulled me over asking "What did you just pick up off the street?!?" I was doing a good deed and got harrassed for it! Sometimes the circumstances are beyond your control, and all you can do is smile, and use polite -chat as they run you for wants and warrants you know you don't have.
The funny part is, they all become my "friends" once they know they will get free meals at my restaurant. All cops are "pigs" when it comes to free food!

that sucks! Yeah, he probably thought it was a 50cc, and pulled it over for going over 40MPH, rather than you going over the speed limit. When he noticed it's a >50cc, he noticed his mistake, felt his shame, and with tails between legs ran off like a loser!

[replyingto=millsc]millsc[/replyingto]I think so, he had never seen a 50 cc scoot that did almost 50, but once the legality's came out I had him even more curious...
When i told him i was an Industrial mechanic and had upgraded Fawkes that seemed to make more sense to him. It was the legality's really that surprised him..
And honestly I believe that's why he let me go.. Seldom I think does he see something like this completely legal..

[replyingto=prodigit]prodigit[/replyingto]I don't know about his running off like a loser, he could have given me the speeding ticket, In Indiana 1 mph or 20 mph over, its 250 dollars plus court cost..
It's no longer based on how many mph over... His decision to not ticket me and let me go... saved me 300 dollars or more, so im not complaining...

In my state we have a must go under 30 or you get like six tickets on a 50cc one of the reasons I went to a 150cc its a great to have a plated insured vehicle if I could of plated my 50s here I probably wouldn't have got a 150 but then again I'm way happier with my bigger scoot

[replyingto=millsc]millsc[/replyingto]Well the officer was wrong with the law here, it's not 25 it's 29 mph.. but I didn't even attempt to correct him.. I just let him think what he wants... I was legal and had nothing to worry about other than a speeding ticket, and i was over the posted legal limit.
Plating in Indiana can be done under "Custom", you can plate just about anything under that... Just don't tell them its a scooter, you tell them its a custom motorcycle and the cc's...
