I just re-jetted my Keihin carb after installing a 50mm BBK. I did both the pilot and the main jet, going to a 35 pilot and main. I now have to keep the air mixture screw all the way in, and the idle adjusting screw all the way in as well, to maintain a rough low idle (my tach hasn't arrived in the mail yet). At take off, if I attempt to start off from the low idle, it bogs for a split second then roars away, and no issues whatsoever at WOT. If I fiddle with the throttle to get the idle higher, it will roar away with no bog at all. Q1: This means I need to put the old 33 pilot jet back in, or should I try a 34? Q2: Should I clean the new iridium spark plug I installed at the same time before doing a WOT test and plug chop to be sure I'm running proper mix at WOT, or will I need to replace the iridium plug in order to get a good reading?

Try the #33 since you already have it, then you probably need to turn it out about 2 1/2 turns. If it is to small then you can get the #34, but I think the 33 will work out for you. Alleyoop

Is a 35 too large for a stock 50?

you can always compensate with the AF screw in case it's too large. 35 may be running rich, but if you adjust the AF screw it might even out.

If you screwed the idle screw all the way down it will run with a/f screw closed

If you screwed the idle screw all the way down it will run with a/f screw closed Sorry, you confused me there. I had to turn both the mixture screw and the idle screw all the way in to keep it idling. I then got highest RPMs at 1/4 turn out on the mixture screw. and though I don't have my tach yet, it is definitely just barely fast enough to keep running. Going out to the garage right now, gonna fiddle with it a bit more before I return to the original idle jet. I'll go with a cold start with both screws out 2 full turns, see if it will start and idle as the enricher warms up, and go from there.

I think he meant to do that until you reach your best idle then go ahead and set the idle to where you are comfortable with it.

No matter what, I couldn't get a good idle speed with the larger jet, and I found out why. I thought it was a 35 pilot, but after putting the old 33 back in, I noticed it was a 38. I'll go over to scrappydogs and pick up a 35 soon and see if that helps. For now, the 33 is running OK, but still has a bit of up/down while just sitting there idling.
Thanks for the tips!

Picked up the 35 pilot jet, and it was hardly any better than the 38. Sticking with the 33 for now, but I still have a slow up and down sometimes when idling, usually when first started before takeoff, and if sitting at lights for too long. Doesn't quit or rev up high when idling, so meh, I'll live with it till I get a tach on it and can do some fine tuning.

you can drill out the zets with a dremel drill or some small fine drill bits.
