New 300 miles Znen Kerrington 150 with the 16 inch wheels. I'm running 250 pounds dressed so I'm heavy but within spec of this scoot. But it knocks rather badly even under light demand. I'm running premium gas. It isn't a preignition ping, it's a knock.
Scoot runs great and has had no issues otherwise. I installed the three upgrade components of Iridium plug, hot coil and performance CDi which helped a bit, but still knocks.
The new CDI has a pot on it which I think is for timing adjustment, so it's possible I can accomplish something there, but I can't find any reference to this adjustment anywhere.
A clue is that the bike won't get above six grand. So I'm thinking if I can get up into the power band near eight thousand maybe that will be the answer. Weights?

Raise the rpms it will knock more.

Get a timing light on it . The POT could be an adjustable rev limiter . I have a 16" wheel scooter I'm using a variable timing CDI (non adjustable) , I have never heard a ping from my engine . What grade gas are you using ?

[replyingto=redroush00]redroush00[/replyingto]same as on a car, Timing marks are on the flywheel or rotor.Some even have a small plastic plug in the fan cover.timing marks are right under it. Take a look at yours.right about at 10 or 11 o clock on the side of the fan cover.

Okay so it should just line up then? If its dead on then its not a timing issue.

How do you use a timing light on a scooter?? And at what RPM?

You can try richen it up a little, Turn the Fuel Ratio Mixture Counter Clockwise and see if that eliminates the knock. If not it is to advanced and you will need to retard it a little.
So if a little more fuel does not eliminate the knock, Take the Valve cover off bring it up to Top Dead Center as if your going to adjust the valves and check where the CASE POINTER is pointing to on the FLYWHEEL. That CDI could also be to advanced. Alleyoop

Forgot to answer one question how to adjust the adjustable CDI:
To adjust an adjustable CDI. Turn the pot clockwise to advance, counter clockwise to retard.
Turn it only a little at a time and try it out to much in either direction the motor will run poorly. Alleyoop

with a stock cdi it should not change at any rpm .

Read his first post he has an ADJUSTABLE CDI. He needs to back it off on the timing. Alleyoop
