rocky, I hadn't known Captain Kangaroo was in the forces. Now Mister Rogers, him I knew. It's why he always wore long sleeves. Don't know what he served in though. As for Knotts or Conway, um....neither? Although TC was definitely the greater comic genius as his ad-libs show. *SHNORK!* >'Kat Don Knotts' distinguished military service record Veteran of the Second World War who was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with 4 bronze service stars), Army Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge (with Carbine Bar) and Honorable Service Lapel Pin. Served in the Army of the United States, under the service number 35 756 363, from June 21, 1943 to January 6, 1946. Discharged in the rank of Technician Grade 5, which was the equivalent of a Corporal.

Of course for me it will always be my Dad.
A 40 year old 3rd Battalion 182nd Infantry Top Kick with the Americal HQ Division who served the duration of the Pacific Campain as an Army Ranger with attachments to the Paratroupers, Airborne, Silent Service and Jungle Raiders. One Island One Ranger. He was recruited to the Jungle Raiders since at the time he was a widower with no children. Did advance recon and demolition softening beach heads before the Marines got there. He was not sure who would be happier to see who the Marines when they saw him as they hit the beach and he turned over his report and maps of what he had already set up for them or himself to see them and get a change of clothes, supplies along with a ride back to the base to get his next assignment. The Colonel that deployed them was killed in a raid and the deployment records for his group were all destroyed in a fire so there is no detailed record of what they did in their service. A number of times the Marines did not make it back to retrive him as scheduled since the campain to hit that beachhead had been postponed so he got left behind with no open orders to be there making it so he was considered AWOL and docked pay for months while fighting a one Ranger War against the Japanese using a bayonett and hatchet for the most part since his 45 and 30/30 made too much noise to slip by unnoticed.

Don Knotts' distinguished military service record... Marksman Badge (with Carbine Bar)... Seriously rocky? Wonder if it bothered him to then play a guy who's marksmanship was questionable at best. But what about our Cap'n? How did he serve? And what was Mister Rogers? Seems I'm remembering that he was a Marine? >'Kat

Mr. Rogers a Marine sniper, not much more is known than that. Oh, Ted Williams was a Marine pilot.

Who was Ted Williams?
A sniper? Now THAT's who I want around our kiddos--no bad crazy sicko person would've gotten very far if Mister Rogers had been around and armed! And he was so mild on tv.
Now I still need to hear what Cap'n Kangaroo was in the services. Then I can go to sleep with an easy mind. (imagine happy sleeping smiley here)

As for "real life" tv cops--seems I remember a show called S.W.A.T. Wouldn't they win for macho? Or else Animal on Hill Street Blues. I mean, any guy who's not afraid to bite a perp has to be pretty macho. (now imagine snarly teeth-snapping smiley)

Now you're mixing your media, alley. Not nice. Oranges and...and...those weird not-quite orange things with the knob at the one end. Tangelos? Oranges and tangelos. Whatever.
You're confusing the Blonde! ;D
