Hello All,
Over the weekend I decided to check the valve clearance on my scoot. It turns out that they needed to be adjusted so I readjusted them to the suggested .004". I put everything back together and started her up and now the valves are tapping slightly. My question is, is this alright that they are tapping or should I take everything apart and tighten up the clearance even more? or will this tapping go away after riding the scoot for a bit? Any suggestions are appreciated.

No it wont go away. It might even get louder as the scoot heats up. Mine were so annoying at that gap i redid them at .002

Tapping valves mean they are likely correctly adjusted...

Correct no tapping means that the valve is pushing against the rocker arm constantly and is likely not fully closing. If they tap there is a tiny space there that the allows the cam to move the rocker that little bit to open the valve. Clattering on the other hand is bad. A mild tapping is perfectly normal...

[replyingto=scootnwinn]scootnwinn[/replyingto]what would clattering be a sign of? When mine is hot, after a few miles,if I come to a complete stop, when I take off it will clatter one or two times, and then be fine. No hesitation, just an abrupt clack-clack-zoom This is since the BBK.

The hipro cam seems to make valves louder

Clattering is usually too much gap. It can also be a lack of oil to the top end. That is likely what yours is it just takes a a second for the pump to get oil up there and then all is fine. I wouldn't give it much thought.

yeah, I watched it carefully the first few times. All seems ok, gap is a tight .004. probably like you guys say, cam or oil .really does'nt bother me.I was just curious if I was overlooking something

That would be .004 inches... Red's video clip is a good reference... sounds like a well oiled sewing machine...perefect
