you can fix theodometer every so ofter by spinning the odometer wire backwards . Uhm, isn't that illegal? At least, here in KS it's illegal to change the odo.... I've no idea if my speedo is accurate, close, or crazy-off. But my odo is pretty spot on, at least according to my car's. Both show it's ten miles from home to work. So unless they're both off and off about the same amount, my scoot's odo is good. >'Kat

Question--how do you drive along and watch the road, your speedo, and your GPS? I mean, I did it driving the wagon but then I could put my Garmin on the coin shelf so it was just a quick glance down. Do you have something to hold the GPS on your scooter? Wedge it between the dash and windshield? Drive holding it?? Egads! I can't even take my hand off the steering to return The Wave correctly, let alone drive holding something! (And in case you're wondering, Taurie's speedo is fast when he's slow, pretty spot-on when he's middlin', and slow when he's fast.) >'Kat

My speedometer overstates the speed by about 10 miles per hour once I go over 30, a little less before then. My odometer is a constant 13% over actual. My question has always been whether the tach is off too - I don't know how to check for that.

My Xingyue (16" wheels) speedo reads very fast above 25mph. I had a GPS mount sandwiched under the mirror stalk. I stuck a "45" label over the 60 on the face. The odo is right on. The Znen speedo is also off. The fastest on GPS or smart phone MyTracks - was about 55mph, but the speedo showed 70mph. The odo is close enough.

Another possibility why the speedo meter and ODO meter are not connected, is because many chinese companies want to make you feel like your 50cc really can do 55MPH. So they create a back sticker showing you're doing 55-60MPH at top speed. It's very easy for them to print out a correct speedo sticker, but they refuse to do this, because of this make-believe false advertisements asian countries are so known for! You'd think that a company like TaoTao, making the ATM50 since 2006 or 2007, would have figured out how to change the speedo to a correct setting? No, for 7 years they're releasing the same overrated speedometers on their bikes, and probably will continue to do so, because people really believe they're going 45MPH when the speedo tells them, when in fact they're only going 35MPH. The ODO is calibrated in many cases. The speedo is calibrated, and then on the background an incorrect speed readout is printed; so it's no longer calibrated. To calibrate it, just do as jeepsteve said, either write a line with permanent marker on the plastic, and write the correct speeds, or get the speedo out, and sticker them to a correct speed, or create your own custom background sticker with zazzle: www.zazzle.com/speedometer+stickers

I never made this, but I researched the idea of just making your own speedometer sticker putting the mph where they "should" be rather than trying to recalibrate anything. This seems to me would work perfectly if you take gps speed readings and note them somehow in relation to your speedo. www.webdesign.org/photoshop/drawing-techniques/speedometer-design-from-scratch.19368.htmlI'm not sure it makes much sense in the end, though, because because no light would make it through the sticker if you want to ride at night.

[replyingto=trailheadmike]trailheadmike[/replyingto]This looks like something to try in Gimp. I sure cant afford PS! Make a white background and dark text, print on a clear sticker material, or a thinner paper. Avery transparent sticker material: www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Products/Crafts-&-Scrapbooking/Sticker-Project-Paper/Clear-Sticker-Project-Paper_04383.htmI haven't looked in a while, but I did see plans for printing new gauge faces for the Ford Probe, and other cars. I know the speedo on the Xingyue is painted on glass- I think it is glass or heavy plastic. If I were feeling artistic, I should be able to remove and paint new numbers, at least in the upper speeds. I have a white 45 label on the 55mph spot - I think I said it was on the 60 before. I had to look again.

My scoot's same as all my cars, a lightbulb hidden under the edge of the cluster which shines across the gauge lighting it up. >'Kat

I have a digital speedo What type of new sticker can i put on it to make it read correctly?
Can I raise the front wheel and spin it backward to reverse the miles? How can I change the odo wheels on a digital odo?
What brand BBK can i get for my 300cc Linhai?
Is there life after death?

[replyingto=davec]DaveC%20%20[/replyingto]Why is the sky blue? Why does the caged bird sing? Who Shot Virginia Wolfe? If other people have Bette Davis eyes, what did Bette Davis have?
(and if you do raise the wheel to reverse the miles, just make sure not to kick the fender. And not have it in front of a solid glass wall. With a goodly downhill behind it.)

Ferris Bueller reference A digital dash could be adjustable - if it uses a magnetic induction pick up at the wheel. Cheap Chinese digital dashboards on ebay - $50-ish bucks. Full dash conversion? Maybe that's the way to go?

At least Kat got my sarcasm
I go as fast/slow as traffic/my limited ability dictates
You should too.

Good catch, steve (bueller....bueller....) Dave, thank you. And going as fast as traffic isn't always good. I was matching traffic-speed and not looking at my speedo 'cause it was so trafficky. And Mr Ociffer chose me to pull over and ticket. Mom still laughs that I got a speeding ticket on my scooter. Never mind it supposedly can go 70+. >'Kat, still wondering about Bette Davis eyes

Curious about the speedo/odometer on my YY250T with 13" wheels...
There's a RADAR sign at my workplace setup, and my scooter speedo reads accurately at speeds between 20-35mph, per the sign's display. My odometer seems to read over by as much as .1-.2 miles over for a known 1-mile stretch of road. That would really mess up my calculated fuel economy if the odometer is off by that much. I don't have a GPS unit to monitor against the bike instruments to verify though.

I don't have a GPS unit to monitor against the bike instruments to verify though. Just plot a course with Google maps, and ride it! Record the odo at beginning and end of the course, and compare to google maps. Usually within 3-5% error rate can occure, because of not following the route exactly. (eg: outside turns, or inside turns, or going off track). Then compare the results to the google maps measurement, and you know if it's off or not.
