Sir I'm not being rude but I think this is what you're saying?
Would a motor not get enough vacuum to run gas to the motor if the cases were slightly split? Carb bowl is full, plug is dry just no gas, hitting the motor and I have a beautiful blue spark.
The answer to your question? IMO you would not have very good vacuum if any.

[replyingto=jr]JR[/replyingto]What does the crankcase have to do with vacuum? I thought that would be a funtion of the cylinder and head (which probably would not even fit or "line-up with the case)? Just asking- Please tell me if i'm thinking wrong or forgetting something

Timing is everything. The valves would need to be properly gapped, the timing chain set correctly and the cases being split not throwing the ignition timing off.
They all have to happen in concert and perfect synchronicity.

Maybe is it a 4 stroke? What size engine? Why are the cases open? Don't try to run a motor with the cases slightly split it's just a very bad idea...

That's what I'm thinking- a 4 stroke. If the cases were split, 1- it probably would'nt hold oil 2- I don't think you could even get the cylinder studs to line up with the cyl. or head. How is it even running?

Has to be a 2 stroke otherwise he would have oil pouring out. And if you know how a 2 stroke works it draws the gas in when the piston is coming down so a split case he would have no vacuum. Alleyoop

On a 2 stroke the gas lubes the lower end being drawn through the case so it wouldn't run if the case was split. On a 4 stroke I could understand a quick test fire but I would not try to start it with the case slightly split myself either. The why they desire to run the engine with the case slightly split could be interesting.
