Ok- So i did a ton of performance upgrades to my taotao 50cc- pretty much everything I can do without getting into much heavy stuff (porting head, big valves, etc). The ride is running sweet- but I still want more speed - isnt that always the case? I installed a bbk first (72cc), bought and installed a new keihin carb and upjetted. Put a performance air filter in place of the old airbox, installed an A9 cam (made a big difference), 6g sliders, 1500 rpm clutch springs and contra spring and a kevlar belt. She goes from a dead stop to speedo needle pegged in no time- even climbing lighter hills she pegs the speedo- so i have plenty of power to work with. I put a performace cdi on and hot coil as well. I think the only thing I can do to reliably get more speed at this point is final drive gears, but I dont know what the ones I have in it are and what to go up to. I'd only like to step it up one notch, I really dont want to lose MUCH low end power. Any advice? Where do I find the measurement of the gears I have? Do I need to open the case and count the teeth? Also how restrictive is the stock exhaust on these bikes? I have a tachometer on the way but I dont think I'm getting too high in rpms... just wondering if my exhaust has now become a restriction from higher rpms and more speed. Like I said- I get up to 42-43 QUICK but then it seems to top out there...

Ten inch wheel scoots have 15 51 I reccomend 18 46 or 16 50 they both work well the 18 46 did better and the rumors about the hoca sets being too tall of a gear is false

Number of teeth in the pinion gear and other gear or what? What is one step "up" from the stock gearset? When I say "up" I mean towards a higher topend...

With taller gears you may need lighter rollers or sliders . Remove the CVT cover and then the clutch . Drain the gear lube . There is a plate behind the clutch where the gears are . To change the gears on the shaft you need to go toa machine shop that has a hydraulic press in order to get them on there . A hammer will not work and will mushroom it making it junk . I had 6g rollers in my 2T that came with it and tried 4g but was too light so I mixed them up to equal 5g . I later put on a BBK , Uni and racing pipe but with the extra power I could hit 10,500 with ease . I bought 8g sliders ( most 2Ts use 4 or 5g ) to keep the RPMs down at cruising speeds or so I thought . Now even with 1.5k clutch springs takeoff is slower , midrange is good but not as peppy as with lighter weights , but darn I can hit 9k RPMs going up a steep hill like in the video where Im going 50 MPH ( speedo that displayed 4MPH more that radar at 20 , 30 and 40 MPH test runs ) . My Honda Spree ( hot rod 90cc 2T ) I could be a stand still with two passengers and hit 35 before getting to the top of the hill and bury the 50 MPH limit on the speedo all day long . My Jonway Magnum however after I hit 50 + it is like it goes to an under drive as I can barely give it any throttle or it will go to 10,500 RPMs as the tach says redline is 8k . You can tune for take off or top end as its hard to have both . I like to peak the midrange myself . Too tall of gears will hurt take off and up hill . I have had mopeds with pegs and boocoos with pedals , dirt bikes and street bikes , but when I rode a scooter for the first time ( the Spree that I bought later on ) it felt so weird to me with the short tires and wheelbase . I had a TaoTao ATMa with 10x 3.5 tires and it mad me nervous at top speed as it was unstable and felt sketchy . I am 6ft4 and too tall for a small scooter . I blew up the " secret 63cc ) and bought an Air Sal 50mm BBK since I did not want another piston kit . People told me the top end would be the same , as its based on gearing and they were right . Take off and up hill were much better . I could get to top speed faster and maintain it easier without having to redline it ( no tach ) but I could feel the heat diff at less throttle than at WOT through the seat in the summer . Most 10x3.5 tires are only rated up to 62 MPH and most stock tires are junk and not balanced . Before you hot rod it to go faster invest in premium tires like Pirelli or Michelin ETC and get the balanced . I had my wheels based on my Echarm and WOW it was so much smoother at high speeds . The Echarm has 16 wheels so it feels more like a motorcycle than a scooter . My Magnum has 130/60/13s with a street knobby tread and not balanced but I feel very safe as it is stable in high wind . I can even ride with no hands in a curve with no stress . I do not suggest people try this as I hate to hear about people getting hurt . I got my scooter dealer to order me some Pirelli SL26 tires that are rated for up to MPH way beyond what it can do . Premium tires can also handle more weight , grip better , ride better and have a faster top speed rating . The trade off is softer tires do not last as long as hard tires . I feel more safer on my scoot with 13s than with 16s as the 13s are wider and have more contact with the pavement . On 10s and 16s uneven patches and cracks in the road surface it would get sketchy at times , but with 13s I ride over them with no sense of them affecting the handling . I love to have doughnuts ( fat tires ) as the 16s are not on the same scale as the 13s . Example they would be much wider if so . 50s are designed to run 30 to 40 MPH so it if mod it to go faster it will wear out the parts faster and the vibration will keep you busy tightening nuts , bolts and screws that get loose from going fast . If you want a fast 50+cc get a 2T instead of a 4T . Mine bone stock other than going from a 68MJ to a 75MJ it would always hit 45 and sometimes 50 as the exhaust port was not fully open and it would max out at 8k RPMs even with a racing CDI that did not make it go faster on the top end , but helped on takeoff with advanced timing . I also suggest getting a scooter with 12 to 14 inch wheels as they are bigger and wider along with a longer wheelbase which makes it more stable . Some shops here balance scooter tires . If none do in your area you can buy a balancer at Harbor Freight for 50 bucks . CycleGear with mount and balance tires bought from them for 20 each . CG uses a high speed computer balancer . If you bought tires elsewhere they charge 30 a tire . CG does not R&R the wheel so you have to already have it removed before going to them . I have read where some where happy with Balance beads that you insert through the air stem after removing the valve . I have not tried them yet so I can not sure for sure how they work as you may have to test diff amounts in order to get it right . Unbalanced my rear tire would wobble at bit when I revved it up on the CS . Balanced less than a mm shimmy . First time I had the stock tires balanced no wobble at all . I have replaced the ChengShin tires with Shinkos and I am impressed on how much better it rides and handles . Stock had a zig zag gap pattern in the middle and the Echarm has too much weight on the rear which caused it to get weird above 60 MPH . The Shinko on front has a straight line in the middle which is waaaaaay better in handling and channels water better too . If you are restricted to " moped status " be careful as in SC they have been busting people who go over 30 MPH ( SC moped limitations ) with a moped tag . I got a lot of " DUI " hate from cagers when I had a moped tag on my 50 but after I got it insured and a motorcycle tag none at all and cops do not hassle me . I was zooming one night and had two cops point and laugh to see a big guy going that fast on a small scooter . I got pulled over by a Highway Patrol for doing 72 MPH and got a warning ticket since I am legal , was polite , had a helmet on and he said he was curious to see what scooter would go that fast Attachments:
