For the base gasket it can be paper, for the head gasket it has to be metal (between the head and cylinder)

Ok, thanks.
Does it need anything to help it seal? I read someone used copper spray on stuff with the metal gasket.

It doesn't need to be sprayed but you are more than welcome to. It's preference usually. If the surface isn't perfect, the copper spray helps fill the voids.

Stupid question- sorry- was the gasket the wrong size? Or did you maybe have it upside down? I only ask because I just did a bbk and tried to install the head gasket- upside down. Everything lines up but the locater stud things wouldnt fit over it. Before I destroyed the gasket I figured out what I was doing wrong. There was no way to tell which way was up and no holes actually LOOKED bigger than the others... Scrappydogscooters.com sells a gasket kit for most bikes and they're reasonable. For the head gasket I wouldnt try to rig something- fighting against compression and time is a losing battle. =) As far as added spray or whatever- I would NOT. When installing the proper gasket simply make sure that the mating surfaces are CLEAN and free of oil, knicks and debris or ANY of the old gasket. Get some crocus cloth or emory cloth (NOT SANDPAPER!) and some brake clean to remove any small abrasions and a razor blade works well on remaining gasket material. Nothing else is needed and some products might actually be detrimental to the gasket.

The gasket for the gy6 b type engine with 16" wheels is different than other engines because of the stud spacing and the 2 bolt valve cover. It does take a 57mm piston.
I tried the gasket on both sides too, that is why i attempted to use old metal gasket.
I think i just have to get the gasket from bms because i cannot verify that the ebay gasket will work.
If anyone has replaced this gasket for a B type engine, let me know where you found it.
Thanks again

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to say thanks for the info. I ordered the gaskets from bms because i knew they would be correct. I installed them and no more leak.
So don't make my mistake and try to reuse the metal head gasket...it won't seal.
Everything is running great after my rebuild!
