Yup thats the only way I've ever swapped springs. It's alot easier with two people though to get the small retainers in but works like a charm.

I've had a keeper fly out doing it that way once. Spent 3 hours moving stuff and using a high power magnet to find it. I always use a valve spring compressor now.

You can always us a Socket and since your hand is over the hole on top of the socket they will not fly out. Alleyoop

I have a socket that I modified with a die grinder to cut slots in the side, so I can install the keepers. I use a small pair of thin needle nose pliers to insert the keepers. I also modified a big c clamp to hold the socket when compressing the springs. Getting the keepers out is the easy part. Getting them in is the hard part especially with double springs.

Thanks guys My problem is the taper locks flying out as it did in the video. Good idea to use the sodket one at a time.I thought of something like an o2 sensor socket. it has a slot for the wire.(too big) Ty wraps are a good idea too, but you're bound to leave some peices in there. I'm gonna try again one at a time I did this a while ago, but I had a set of helping hands
