Anyone ever try to use any RainX products? I think they have wipes for anti-fog too. I was wondering about the RainX stuff. Wasn't sure if the wax would be ok to use on the shield.

Just use a soft cloth or lens cloths and glass cleaner. I have never had to replace a face shield due to scratches or clouding. Just never use a course paper towel especially the ones from public restrooms as you may as well be using sandpaper.
I sometimes pick up the bulk pack of optical wipes from the wholesale club and those work fine. If they dry out before your done then put a little Windex on it.
Of couse wipe down the rest of the helmet after your done with the face shield. Then it is time to get a cotton towel and some Resolve type spray cleaner to wipe down the straps and the lining. Get a helmet with a fully removable liner and you can just remove it and toss it in the wash with your riding jacket after removing the armor of course. Wipe down the armor with some light cleaning solution such as Simple Green while everything is in the wash.

[replyingto=paulgendek]paulgendek[/replyingto]Beleive it or not, DAWN dish detergent is about the best thing going. I clean most anything with it. Rinse well, towel dry. also, as far as the rain x stuff goes, Is anybody here old enough to remember glass wax?( we used to stencil christmas decorations on the windows when I was little with it). Well Rain x is nothing more than good old fashioned GLASS WAX. I forget who made it, But it's good antifog too.

Dawn is so mild, they use it to clean the shore birds when there's an oil spill. Takes crude oil right off them yet does not harm them It's a real good hand cleaner too!

howdy, when the bugs get bad on the helmet shield and windshield, i don't scrub, i just wet a towel and drape it over the shield overnight which softens up the bug stuff which comes of then without much scrubbing. then use a light film of detergent or something then for anti fog.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

I think the best thing to do is wax the face shield before going out and the bugs shouldnt stick

Becareful to wait for it to dry or you can get quite a nasty rash especially if you have sensitive skin. A friend used the Lysol Liquid Cleaner and ended up with what looked like a bad sunburn with blistering, pealing and the whole nine yards.

Then if caught out after dark you can just peal it off and store it in a ziplock bag under the seat or in the glove box. My new helmet has a flip down tinted sunshield behind the main faceshield. Makes it even nicer during the heat of the day to be able to leave the outer shield fully open for airflow with the inner shield down to protect your eyes.
