If you are around to start it up once every week or every other week and warm it up that is all you need to do. I have been doing this for 4 years now and the Trike is ready to ride anyday anytime 365 days a year. If you leave it sitting there for months without having the gas and oil run through the carb and motor the carbs Pilot Jet outlet tiny holes will varnish up and come riding time or whenever you most likely have to clean out the carb. Also sitting there for a long period of time the oil on the parts drips off and that is tough on parts after sitting for months without lubrication when you finally go and start it up. The rings can stick or start getting corrison, gaskets dry up etc..
Of course if you are not going to be around to do this, then yes by all means take out the battery and bring it in the house or slap a battery tender on it and leave it on. But before you are going to put it away make sure you add some Seafoam and run it or ride it with the seafoam so it gets mixed up and has gone through the carb so it does not varnish up the tiny outlets of the Pilot Jet. It is already March 8th so June is not that far off. Put Startron in the gas to deal with any Ethanol seperation issues filling the tank while your at it and run that in until the engine is fully warmed up. Drain the oil and put in fresh adding a tablespoon down the spark splug hole. Put the battery on a float charger and wait for June. Starting it up and running at idle will only build up acid in the oil.
When June comes you will be good to go.
If your really concerned just give it a Florida Vacation. I know an older gent that would ride it every day for you.

Suzuki Burgmans are fuel injected guys... You beat me to it! but still wont old gas, ie gunk, be in the carb, even a bit. and that would cause probs. ??
and alley made a point , i would think, no oil getting all over the place where its supposed to be.
i understand with efi you should get a rush of gas and be able to start but like i stated above,

I know my Piaggio mech said that idling does nothing for charging the battery. It only charges when the scoot's actually going. But that might be just a Piaggio thing.
Danno, I agree--just go get a Battery Tender JR, then you never have to mess with taking out the battery. You put the charger things on your battery (yes, obviously I had my mech do this as you can tell from that description!) then you just plug in the tail to the plug that then goes into the outlet. Way easier!
Meanwhile, my Peej sat for over a year with a Tender and whatever stabiliser Mech Mike put into the gas. When I started him the only prob was he stuttered the first attempt. Second try though, putt-putt-putt noises! I let him idle a bit, revved him a little before going (in case a mouse had nested in the exhaust ha!), and zero issues. But I don't think this practise is recommended. At least without changing oil etc.
And yes fellows, I'm going to take Peej in this spring for an oil change and everything before riding again.

Btb hon', whoever said June isn't that far away has never stood there with a gimpy appendage looking at his scooter he can't ride. June is a HECK of a long way away for you! Isn't it?
At least now you can sit on your Burgy instead of the sofa-arm when you make-pretend.... ;D

Poor Danno. Back to sitting on the sofa-arm making putt-putt noises. Can't even play make-pretend on the real thing.
I understand about your wife's concerns. My Mom still calls mine "that thing." Tells everyone my riding a scooter gave her her grey hairs (which she had before I ever bought the scoot). Says a prayer every time I get on and ride. But she also knows I've taken every precaution I can to be safe, and that I don't go hot-shotting around, and I leave extra-early so there's never any rush.
I still think if you get her that totally adorable pink jacket, and get her riding behind you, she'll be at least a little more accepting...

Good point. I guess start with the jacket. Win her over slow. Even if you kill yourself on "that thing" she can still wear the jacket. ;D

Speaking of "kill yourself" she just gave me a call and said to me I almost became a widower today! She had our daughter and 3 of her friends in the car driving up the main single lane road in our town...it has a 50 mph speed limit....Anyway a guy in a huge pick up truck pulls out of a gas station at a very fast speed...fortunately there was room for my wife to move onto the shoulder or else she said she would have defiantly been broad sided. She said the guys expression was he didn't have a clue she was there. From this point on we're changing the rules in this house....we're driving in the daytime with our brights on. There are nuts out there...and for some reason many of them are in these huge 4x4 pick ups. They think they're invincible which imo, causes them to drive unsafely. Anyway...I have a question regarding this battery charger I bought. It's a Schumacher XM1-5. I got it at Walmart My question is this...it has 5 LED indicators. 1-power is being supplied to battery 2-indicates charger is properly connected to battery 3-it's charging 4-in abort mode...its senses a problem and shuts down 5-battery is fully charged and now the charger is in a maintain mode. The question I have is this...I only have 2 lights on... 1 & 2. its not indicating the battery is being charged or is it indicating its in the maintain mode? Am I missing something? Shouldn't it be either charging or maintaining?

Terri, there is no carb on a fuel injected vehicle. Some that have what is called a throttle body injection look like theyhave a carb but they do not.
Even though, injectors can get plugged an need a cleaner sent through them occasionally.
