I just purchased a Burgman 400....the problem is, I can't ride it yet because of an injury to my shoulder. It's likely going to be around June before I can start to think about riding her. Im trying to decide the best way to keep the bike in good shape.
1-add a stabilizer such as Sta-Bil
2- Take out the battery and charge it once a week?
3-Allow it to run for 5 minutes every couple of days?
Thanks in advance

i add 1 oz of seafoam per gallon of gas
if you start it and run it every 5-7 days for 10-15 mins you prob wont even have to put it on a trickle charger. you dont have the cold that will sap your battery
dont just let it idle tho, on the center stand run it up to 5-6k, for a min or 2, back down to idle , back up to 4-5 k. a few times
MAKE SURE CENTER STAND IS SAFE AND SECURE

as long as its in the garage or covered and the battery is on a trickle charger and drain the gas it should be fine until june, maybe change the oil before you ride.

I put mine in the garage, but leave the gas in with sta-bil in it, it is good to fill the gas tnak up, this helps prevent rust in the tank. keep the battery tender on it and start at less once aweek, that way if you get a good whether day, you will be ready to go (I ride most of the year)

First, its not possible to get all the gas out...there's always some left over that can do damage. Secondly, is what you said, a filled up tank prevents exposing the bare metal of the tank to the air and moisture which could lead to rust and corrosion. Draining the tank can also lead to gaskets becoming dry and then cracking.

Don't start it and run it for five minutes or so, every so often like has been said. You will do more harm than good if it never gets HOT it won't get properly hot sitting on the stand in the garage. Stabilize the fuel fill the tank set a battery tender on it and it will be fine.

Most batteries do fine even when not used for 3 weeks. From 1 month up, they usually start degrading.
All you need is fill up the gas tank, add some fuel stabilizer in the fuel, do some PDI, adjust levers while you can't ride, it's a good time to do some maintenance, and run it for 15 minutes idle once a week. Idle running is good enough for charging the battery. Battery tender is not necessary when you're leaving it running for a few minutes.
In your off time, you can also browse the web, for additional things you want to add to the bike, like improvements, saddlebags, windshield/mods, handlebar risers, etc...

Take it or leave it but just so you all know (apparently a lot of folks are doing this). Running for a few minutes occasionally encourages corrosion. The engine never gets hot enough for a long enough time to fully boil off condensation. This results in a build up of this vapor in your oil. Additionally this promotes engine wear as the transmission never fully warms and the casing is warmed unevenly. You don't want any of this. I am doubtful that the charging that results from a short run at idle does much more to even cover the net loss caused by running the starter. Danno just use the $30 tender (you need one any way) don't torture the bike with repeated partial warmings.

I do agree with you scootnwinn, When I start mine I let it run so the fan kicking on so it get nice and hot. (I don't start and shut off) I've been doing this for about the last three years, never had a problem, now sometime its has gone a longer time without starting it.
