Okay guys, I made mention awhile back that I was looking at a Puma Romeo. I finally let myself get talked out of it in light of all the negative publicity Chinese scoots get. (I still wish I'd have given it a shot). Instead of the Puma Romeo, I picked up a SYM Lance Cali Classic 125cc air cooled scoot (seen below). I've put about 250 miles on it, and just changed the engine oil and gear oil today for the first time. I have to say I'm very very impressed with it. It runs like a champ, starts on the first try cold or hot, and runs strong down the road and has no problem carrying my fat 210 pound rear end right down the road. This is the first scooter I've ever owned and I'm feeling a bit of buyer's remorse actually. I'm thinking maybe I should have saved up for a full size motorcycle. The scooter is very fun to ride, and it gets amazing gas mileage, but I have noticed a couple of things that I think could have been better on this scooter. 1st, there is a hump about midway down the seat. I'm sure for a smaller person it would be fine. But I'm 5'10" (not super tall) and rides over 15 miles can be tough because of the hump in the seat. My tail goes numb. 2nd, I'm a little disappointed in the ride I get out of the 12" wheels. I'm starting to think I should have gotten a scooter with larger wheels or just plain a full size bike. I noticed after I changed the oil today that the engine was just a tad spunkier than before. Lots of power on the throttle and it keeps up with traffic with no problem at all. I probably shouldn't complain too much because I only paid a total of $2100 cash for it, and $75 for a whole year of full coverage insurance. Not too shabby! Not to mention I love when I stop to fill the tank and it costs less than $4.00! The owner of the place I got it from says Sym and Kymco are Taiwanese scooters that are far superior to their Chinese knock off cousins. After a few weeks of riding this scooter, I have to say overall I think I got a good deal? LOL! Is anyone here familiar with Sym or Kymco? I hope I don't find out I bought crap!! Ha! Congrats on the new scoot !
I have a 2010 Cali Classic in my stable of bikes and love it. It looks good is a strong performer for the money the fit and finish are second to none.
That being said it is what it is, a 125cc small wheel scooter. It pulls well and I can cruise at 50-55 no problem, after that there's little left. Again not bad can't ask for much more from the displacement.
I agree on the seat. I put a Roho Airhawk seat cushion on and it helps with the back. It also allows the rider to move back a little on the seat as it negates to hump in the seat. The ride is ok for a 12" rearl wheel. I'm a big wheel scooter fan so this scoot is different to me. Not bad just more "scooter like" .
I'd suggest anyone thinking of buying this bike to be sure it fits. For anyone of size this is not the scooter for you. I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam and its close to being cramped.
I've got over 7000 miles on mine and never so much as a burp. It just runs and runs.
Good luck with the new ride.

Congrats on the new scoot!
And quit remorsing about it. There'll always be things you find out you wish were different. But that's almost anything you buy first time. That fabulous sandwich that has the sauce you don't care for. That house that doesn't have an timer on the attic fan. "Et cetera et cetera et cetera." You just store up the knowledge of what you're not fond of, and remember it next time you buy (in this case) a scooter.
I'm thinking the seat is fixable anyways. Check an upholsterer and see what it would cost for them to redo the seat and remove the hump. Might be worth it.
Meanwhile, ENJOY THE DICKENS OUTTA' THAT NEW SCOOT!!!!!

Very nice! Congrats on the first scoot. I feel ya on the remorse. Sometimes I wish I had a faster cycle, but at least I'm not getting into trouble on my lil' 150. No crashes yet. Knock on wood

Fantastic scooter! (made by SYM)
It will last you very long time and give you more than your money's worth.
That being said, don't be disappointed with it, after all it is only a 125cc air cooled machine. All scooters including bigger ones, have less suspension travel than a regular motorcycle. It won't really work on the interstate or a heavily traveled 65 mph highway.
That being said, it can do a lot of things better than a motorcycle. It's terrific for short errands and if you get a vinyl bag for the hook and topcase you can really get some groceries. You can really squeeze into places and around stuff, you will find some neat shortcuts a motorcycle wouldn't dare try. You can literally use extra coins you have laying around to keep gas in it!
A small scooter is fun in a way that always puts a huge grin on your face, especially when you buy one that only requires basic maintenance. Change your own oil, valve jobs are very easy to do. Changing brake pads are simple and if you can switch out your belt and roller weights, you will never have to pay anyone a cent to work on it.
Enjoy!

Ya, there are a lot of benefits over a motorcycle. The main one being no clutch. Just twist and go!

Hey, I've owned and ridden EVERYTHING in the past 50 years... And I enjoy my little 150 scooter just as much as my old Harleys, back in the day. You got yourself a good scooter at a good price. You'll enjoy it a lot, and, if later you want to try something else, you can sell it and recover a good portion of what you paid for it.
I know what you mean about the "hump" in the seat. Same with mine. The front portion is for the rider, and the rear is for a passenger. I'm a little over 6' 1" and weigh 235, so I fit a little tight. But, amazingly, after a month of riding I got used to the seat, and actually like it!
Give it a chance and you may like it too. If not, you could probably remove the covering, shave the seat foam more flat, and re-cover. If you're careful, it will look almost "factory" and you can then sit on any portion of the seat at will.
You got a nice scoot! Enjoy!

Wow guys, thanks!! ;D Even with my minor complaints I'm very very happy with the scooter!! All I need now is a scooter gang to join! I watched the movie Larry Crowne today, and I was jealous of the scooter gang Tom Hanks was in. After seeing what fun I'm having with my scooter, my wife wants one now. I guess I'll have to get her one soon!! Thanks for all the kind remarks!! If anyone in the Phoenix/Mesa Arizona area is nearby and would like to ride with my wife and I sometime just hit us up!! Cheers!! Dave

] After seeing what fun I'm having with my scooter, my wife wants one now. I guess I'll have to get her one soon!! Okay, here's possibly the perfect solution to your buyer's remorse. Have your wife sit on your scooter. I'm guessing she'll sit further up, so that bump that bothers you won't bother her at all. If that's the case, then you start looking for a little larger scoot for yourself, with the intent of giving your wife this one once you find yours. And you said something about maybe the wheels are too small for you? So check out larger-wheeled scoots while you're at it. Buyer's remorse cured. But 'til you get that second scooter, like I said enjoy this one to the utmost. >'Kat
