I want to add color to my seat but dont want to re-cover the whole thing. Thinking perhaps red or silver accent on my existing seat. Will spray adhesive keep it on?

Its gonna be hard to keep the edges down without stitching but you can try the 3m,,it is good stuff,,just let it tack up a little before you put the piece on.

Once out in the sun even the best adhesives will start to breakdown. IMO it's not worth the risk of "tacky butt" if it fails.

Contact cement or rubber cement. make sure it's exactly where you want it, cause once it's down, you cannot lift it off

I have sprayed painted motorcycle seats in the past using the special vinyl paint before. It does actually work fairly well. But since it is applied to the surface it will wear off after a while. I did this a lot when I lived in Arizona where the summer heat would make the seat so hot it would burn you when you sat on it. I used to paint them white and that worked pretty good at keeping the temperatures down to a tolerable level. But it would wear off over time and I would need to reapply the paint later. But usually it lasted the summer though.
I have tried the vinyl repair kits before to repair holes or tears and they work for a while too. But not good enough to make it a permanent repair.

If you just want to add a stripe across the seat for some color consider adding a bright colored strap/belt for your gloves just behind where the rider sits in the front part of the passenger area of the seat. Those screw on to the underside of the seat lip and can be easily replaced or removed if you get tired of the look and usually won't damage the seat cover as long as the backing is not abrasive.

I like the idea of the strap/belt. Best part of that idea is it would be easy for you to change out the color if you decide you don't like the color you chose first or get tired of it.

I used a vinyl glue once that was a miracle worker, never have been able to find another. I would not use the contact cement or spray glue, don't think it would be a long term fix and when it peeled off you would have a sticky residue let that would be a pain until it got cleaned off and it would not be easy to do.
I would go the strap way or the vinyl paint way. Or go hog wild and just re upholster it.
