My '81 Honda NC50 has a vacuum operated automatic choke, and it seems to be stuck on. It runs fine without an air filter (I obviously don't run it like that except for short tests), but even with my high flow filter it bogs down after about half throttle and "four strokes" really bad. Two days ago it was running fine. Does anyone know about those old vacuum operated chokes? Also, I want to replace the carb with one that has a manual choke. Does anyone know what to do about the vac lines coming off the cylinder head? Could this be anything besides the auto choke? I've already tried adjusting the A/F and the position of the needle.

Just plug the line that goes to the choke back at its source. If it goes to a T just cap the side that went to the choke.

Here is a diagram of what your automatic choke may look like: Alleyoop
