[replyingto=oldchopperguy]oldchopperguy[/replyingto]Thanks, Leo! That's very informative. Yeah, like I said with my UNI filter it seemed to run fine, just had popping and lean conditions with my small jet so I put an actual sock over it to restrict the airflow some. Problem (temporarily) solved! Or so I thought... I understand your post a lot better now that I know the proper term for the foam filter "sock". ;D After a long trip to pay the water bill, go to ace hardware, and stopping at a few other places I got home and wondered why my lean conditions had returned, but gave it no second thought because I knew my jets would arrive later. When I took off my seat bucket to replace my intake manifold I finally noticed my filter had been gone; for how long I do not know. If it weren't for the risk of micro abrasions on the cylinder wall I'd just up jet to 98 and run without any filter at all. But I know that's a bad idea. I've never ran my scooter with a stock filter before because when I had the stock filter installed it was broken beyond repair to begin with. So I technically never have used a properly functional stock air box. I hear that any tubing between the intake and the air is restrictive so I'd prefer to not even bother with it and stick with the so-called "performance" filters.

[replyingto=lykos23]lykos23[/replyingto]Dude,,you lost your UNI,,that sucks!!!!!
I heard of guys using a piece of radiator hose to extend the filter out away from the motor hanger some,,i may try to do that one day,,but mine is happy inside my stock airbox for now,,man you need to figure out a way to put a little strap or zip tie around your next one up by the intake and fasten it to somewhere secure,,that way if it falls off again,,it wont go for a ride into the gutter....
That just sucks!!

OOPS... I was talking about the UNI "sock" foam-filter, not an actual sock. They just call them socks... LOL! The running characteristics of these scooters vary SO much from one to another. I never could get my scoot to run right with ANY filter but a UNI, or no filter at all. My engine simply will NOT tolerate anything on the carb-mouth. Even a short piece of tubing to place a filter in a better place destroys my performance... Even a short piece of tubing with NO filter. Go figger... With my factory filter on the large "tuba" intake, the engine would peter out and wheeze at 45 mph. I tried every jet option, needle adjusting, etc. with no avail. I finally tried tuning with NO filter and it ran fine. Then I added the UNI and it still ran fine. Some do, some don't... Best wishes with yours! Leo Sounds like a badly machined head, defective airbox or a vacuume leak somewhere. Stock air boxes usually have a tube or some other form of port resistance to enhance low end torque.

It does indeed suck. Sidelined now for almost two days and my new UNI STILL hasn't shipped!
Good idea, though, Tom. I'll try to secure my next one to carb itself if I can. maybe I'll just zip tie it to my throttle cable or something. I had my mother borrow a friend's car and give me a ride down some routes I took, but I had no luck finding my old UNI.
That sucks, dude. If I had to wait just a week I'd order one from a different place. Right now my new UNI filter is in the process of shipping from some place in Chicago, which is just an hour away. It's taking forever to ship, but I paid $15 for speedy shipping so it should at least be here by Monday...
