ARGHH! I sometimes just have the worst of luck! My air filter fell off. I think it's due to having that sock on it, it might've rubbed against the tire or something else, but in any case it's gone now! I had that filter less than a month and now it's gone! Time to order a new one... Is anything better than UNI?

I found one that ships from IL, so I ordered it with expedited shipping... I'm sidelined until I get this new filter...

[replyingto=domindart]domindart[/replyingto]Sounds like me when I was first riding the Honda Zook around ;D
Technically not even street legal, but I drove it to the store almost every day. lol.
Now I'm gonna get my jets tomorrow and I won't even get to ride my scooter to do a plug chop, this next uni filter is getting screwed on extra tight t_t

Couldn't you just use that sock that you were using before? At least temporarily?

[replyingto=doublert]doublert[/replyingto]Nonononono. I was using a sock to cover my entire uni air filter just to restrict air flow because I only have a jet as my biggest jet.

Do you have the original air box set up? Can you put it back?

I had the same problem with my Uni-sock too. However, the sock is the only filter I've found that works well on my particular scoot. I "massaged" the spring inside the UNI and forced it over the mouth of the carb, then put the hose-clamp on. It's stayed put ever since. What happens with mine, and probably with yours, is that the sock filter flexes slightly up and down, as it interferes with the "cat-back" engine mount it goes under. It also rubs some on the rear fender. This flexing eventually cracks the filter, but mine lasted over three seasons so I don't mind replacing it when it dies. I just put on a new one this year.
If you tighten down the clamp on the foam TOO hard, it may cut it. So, be careful of that. by placing the inner spring OVER the carb mouth, it really strengthens the filter, and makes it much more resistant to coming off.
Hope this may help,
Leo in Texas

Wow who knew sock installation could be so technical. ;D

Nope, the original air box is busted up pretty badly and it's what has caused me lean problems to begin with. That's what forced me to order a performance filter as a "cheap replacement" but then the original filter got so dirty that I started running rich so I bought a new one which was one size too big so I was running lean again. Once I got that straightened out the filter broke anyway and I started running lean again. So I ordered a UNI filter and immediately did my plug chop with it; still lean. With heavy symptoms of running lean. With a sock over the filter all the symptoms are gone with a # jet. Thanks Leo. Not sure if you're talking about the UNI filter material that slips over the uni filter, or an actual sock, which I used. I made sure not to tighten it "too much" this time as my last filter broke from apparently tightening it too much. Turns out it was just a wee bit too loose. I'll try to do as you say and make the spring work like that.

I always had better results just fixing the OEM filter to work as it was designed too. Front or side mount the entire OEM style airbox assembly is only $35 and works rain or shine.
Was crusing at 55 and topping out at 65 all GPS verified on my Hunter Style 150 all stock except for the Hoca 115mm variator along with a Scrappy Dog Orange CDI/Coil set.

OOPS... I was talking about the UNI "sock" foam-filter, not an actual sock. They just call them socks... LOL!
The running characteristics of these scooters vary SO much from one to another. I never could get my scoot to run right with ANY filter but a UNI, or no filter at all. My engine simply will NOT tolerate anything on the carb-mouth. Even a short piece of tubing to place a filter in a better place destroys my performance... Even a short piece of tubing with NO filter. Go figger...
With my factory filter on the large "tuba" intake, the engine would peter out and wheeze at 45 mph. I tried every jet option, needle adjusting, etc. with no avail. I finally tried tuning with NO filter and it ran fine. Then I added the UNI and it still ran fine. Some do, some don't...
Best wishes with yours!
Leo
