(click for big map) I get 66.6 mpg, city, average over six months, considerable more than the 50 mpg or less with my last bike. Went for a ride on the Interstate, WOT, 261 miles. I only got about got about 62 mpg -- seems that wind drag trumps small displacement. I have to remap my tour to less miles/leg. Curious -- my 652cc Savage got about 60 mpg on the Interstate too.

My Echarm gets 80 MPG with variables at at 50MPH but when I hit 70 MPH ( it used to hit 75 ) it drinks more gas . My 2T when it was stock was not that bad but not as good as my 4T 50 but with a BBK , pipe and 120 MJ I barely get 50 MPG since the RPMs are so much higher as I try to stay at 8 or 9k and only hit 10,500 for a moment as I do not want to have another disaster like when the wristpin came out and ate up the piston , head and cylinder , GRRRRRRRRR . I have ridden on state interstates for several miles with no problem but no way would I get on the federal interstate where I live as certain sections it is another " Redneck Autobahn " where even going 80 MPH in car people zoom past me . Its worse near bigger cities like Atlanta , Charlotte and Concord . Now way I would go on a long interstate ride on my Echarm since its just a 150 . I can do above the min at anytime and even speed but its pushing hard , where a larger cc engine would be cruising . I did take my 2T on an interstate as I forgot about a highway I was on unofficially is an interstate between two counties then the speed limit goes back down closer to the town . The same day , well that night I went back on it but with my Echarm and I got a warning ticket for going 72MPH in a 65 MPH zone by a HP who was very cool and was more interested to know what kind of scooter I have rather than the minor violation . Riding at 50 MPH is safe , at 60 it gets sketchy and at top speed it has made me more nervous than when I hit 160 MPH on a Hurricane 1000 ( renamed CBR ) . When you have a semi or dump truck going ether direction I found it is best to let up off of the throttle some and duck down as the wind off of some has moved me around and I had to slow down to regain control . Even with 16s it does have what I call a " crossover " feel as its more motorcycle feel than a scooter with doughnuts ( fat tires ) . The rear shocks are wimpy even on firmest setting . Now there is a long highway with insane giant hills we call " The Redneck Autobahn " as it is through a rural area and even with me speeding people break there next to pass me . 2 weeks ago I was cruising at 60 and a goober scared me as there really was not enough room to pass me with a car close in front of me . I rode his bumper and acted like I was going to pass him to send some rudeness back to him . Well the goober clipped the guardrail , broke off a side mirror and kept on going . It is risky enough on the streets and highways with interstate even more dangerous . I would rather find another route and enjoy the ride rather have cagers going fast around me as I do not trust anyone on the road . I have ridden many 400 to 750cc MCs on the interstate with no problem as they have enough power and speed to zoom away rather than be maxed out . I did draft semis by getting right behind them and pulling in the clutch after I heard the draft would pull me down the road as I am one who has to find out myself rather than takes one word on stuff . VERY dangerous and not suggested

Most scooters and motorcycles get best MPG when the engine is going between 2k and 3k RPM. Usually that means ~30-40MPH on 150+cc bikes. At that point, there's least wind drag, and the explosion from the fuel vapor is optimally used in the cylinder. That is for long stroke engines. Short stroke engines do better ~3-4k RPM (like sports bikes). 50cc scooters ride best between 25-30MPH, where ever the variator maxes out.
Wind drag increases exponentially, once you go past 35MPH on a wind still day. Below 35MPH, even a 50cc engine has enough power to overcome most wind drag; but at higher speeds it becomes increasingly more difficult.
That being said, my TaoTao ATM50 gets ~112-120MPG at a constant 30MPH with the engine warm, and ~103-105MPG at a constant WOT. With start-stop it gets ~98MPG.
My BMS TBX 260 EFI got ~83MPG going 40MPH (where the variator is maxed out), and averaged at ~80MPG on my standard rides (I usually rode long distance, few stops with it).
My Honda Shadow VT750 gets ~55MPG across the board, but I changed the rear sprocket, so it won't rev up so high on the highway, and I think right now it's around ~63MPG.
I've noticed if you want ~100MPG, you got to put such a tall final gearing that the engine is barely able to accelerate. 80+MPG I only got because of EFI, but on a carbed bike, should be fine for a person riding level ground, not too much wind, not too heavy. The gearing that will be able to accelerate, but not very fast on the highway.
60MPG usually gives you reasonable fast acceleration on the final gearing, on just about any engine type save for <250cc's, which if it's a 150cc basically it accelerates fine until 50-55MPH, after which the engine displacement becomes an issue, not the gearing or MPG.
On a car it's different. 40MPG gets you a car that can accelerate, but not very rapid. 60MPG gets you a final gear of a car engine that will barely be able to accelerate in final gear. That is a regular carb'd 4cylinder car. Not speaking of Hybrids or semi-electric here.

My scoot cruises along 40 mph with an RPM of closer to 5 or 6K,,guess my Chinese tach is a little off.I thought that was a little high.

What size was that on mate? I bet your right wrist was knackered after keeping it at WOT for so long! Lol Ian Vespa LX150 -- 150.5cc, California Freeway Legal. I had rented on and learned that I am comfortable on the freeway, so I got the Vespa. Otherwise I would have had gotten a Stella, 147.5cc. At 67, I am already knackered. Pain is normal, if I wake up in the morning without pains it means I have dead and am in Heaven. After 260 miles the main pains were thighs and my right elbow? Huh? And the pain tweaks when I squeeze the brakes. Looks like I need to shorten stops to about every 45-75 minutes with a 5 minute walkabout. And maybe one of those clips to hold the throttle open.

howdy, yup, been there done that paladin. i just finnished a 960 mile round trip and found with standard seating i could go about 70 miles then had to stop every 30 or so after that. second tank in a day i stop every rest area and under every tree here in the high desert. then on the way back i took off the seat bolster that was forcing me too far forward and found i could get an extra 3 inches or so of legroom by turning toes out and goind further ahead with my heels in more of a cruiser style seating. much improved comfort so can go a full 150 mile tankful if needed though like to stop at half a tank and smell the roses---er cactus.
we had a harley show here in salem last week and i looked longingly at those electronic cruise controls----
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken
