The thing that made me so mad was its an old helmet not worth much they just got it to be punks. They where just sitting there and I bet one was said I dare you to take his helmet. He want do anything he rides a scooter. That's what made me mad. And ya they could have shot me but don't think about that. You really should replace that helmet now.

@ Dave, if they try to steal it the cops would be pulling up to their door before they did. @ Kat, glad to hear you did that. Helmets can cost a bundle, besides if your state has a helmet law how do you ride home?

When I park some where I can't take my helmet in I usually lock it to the wheel of my bike That is what a topcase is for. If I have my empty lunch cooler with me I will put the $5.99 cooler bag on the helmet hook and lock the helmet in the topcase before I will leave it outside. Even if no one steals it you could end up with a white faced vespelum, coral snake, hunter or recluse spider or even a large banana spider hiding inside it when you put it on. They get real nasty once you buckle it on.

You know, I have to ask.
Why doesn't anyone use the helmet hook under the seat? Doesn't that lock?
I can't 'cause my Nolan has the quick-clip, not the D-rings. But seems to me that's what those hooks are for.
As for a topcase, I found a matching one for something like $50 on CL. So I got a box, same dimensions, and put it on back. Did not like the look of it hanging off the back like that. Nor how it covered the lights, even though it would wire in. Just don't care for it. But otherwise, a topcase would be an ideal place to lock up your helmet, I'd think.
spandi, thanks. And despite that KS doesn't have a helmet law, still how would I drive home without a helmet?

It's a good thing I'm not that Guy any more. Let's put it this way, any crook would be much better off stealing almost any other scoot before try to swipe this one. BTW, as to helmets, I never trusted that hook thing. Just like the OP said, people will take your helmet (By cutting the strap?) just to mess with you.

Unfortunately, my top case does not lock.

scootn, not quite. Between Mom (my ride home) undermining things and weather being wet, I haven't gotten my scoot to the shop for all it needs done for spring tune-up. SIGH!!! But Mom's come around now--she was so cute, when I said I really do need to get my scooter in, she asked if I couldn't just wait for a while, like 'til after she's dead. If only the weather will come around, too, then I'll finally be back on the roads. Hopefully tom?
Jarlaxle, could you rig something for a lock to go through? Not as good as a key, but enough to discourage folks just wanting to mess around.
And that's the saddest of all, someone would cut the strap just to mess with you. Bad enough when they steal to use themselves, or sell. But just to steal for stealing sake? Worst of all. Unspeakable awfulness. Should have their hands cut off.

Good thing about my helmet is its a $40 cheapy so If someone does run off with it , it's not a huge loss.

They make extenders for your d-ring for just that issue.
Kat you better hurry spring is over in like 2 weeks. Don't make me go up there the incessant sobbing if your scooter is getting tremendously tiresome...

At least having them cut the strap and taking it is better than some of the alternatives. Some have been know to leave you the beer that they drank 30 minutes ago by relieving themselves into that hanging helmet. There is not enough disinfectant in the world to make the helmet wearable for me after that. Putting a lock on a topcase can be done in a variety of manners on a budget. There is even a small hasp that has a barrel lock built into it that does not look too bad that would work. This might work for a $6 solution (plus the cost of the 8 flathead machine screws and matching nuts/washers to install it with): www.amazon.com/Stanley-75-5235-Key-Locking-Hasp/dp/B000ZNORL0/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1370488055&sr=8-2-fkmr1&keywords=self+locking+hasp
