I would be searching Craigs List for nearby areas as some are stupid enough to post stolen items .

I think we need to get a scooter gang together, a hardcore scooter gang, and all meet at Hanks place for a little late night vigilante scooter thief round up. Followed by a bit of heavy stick & boot justice... I have a plan... I'll bring my nunchaku...

Tha just plain sucks!!! When I was living in the city (new Bedford mass) I had seven locks around my scooter attached to my deck not 20" from where i slept. Someone cut a couple of chains. and tried to cut the 3/8" cable could not do it. So I then bought 2 video cams Cheap no recorder, but if you hear something you hit video on tv remote and you see and hear whats going on. These determined S.O.--"s came back and cut the wires to the cameras!Anyway, Maybe you should invest in a small cctv system. It could also give you a discount on insurance. this way you have the theives on a recording. you can get them for less than $500. beleive me , it's worth it. Security, and peace of mind. I bought one- a good investment. even if some idiot cuts the wires, you have his face on record!

Ah, Hank man, what the (insert expletive here)? To be honest mate, if its happened the same way before and no one got caught, I think some local thieves will actually have you "marked". They'll know you've got bikes, and they'll know to wander past every now and then to have a look if you've forgotten to lock one away again.......... I personally would suggest not buying another bike. Or at least, not buying another bike until you've cleared some space space so all the babies can be locked up safe out of sight. Or if you desperately, just cannot, in any way, control your scooter urges, fit some CCTV and keep the tape/disc in operational condition at all times. Even then, you're only hoping to catch the guy: Ian Hi Ian I dont think its that bad of a situation My Puma that was stolen 3 years ago was lifted at the local walmart when i went shopping with her Spectre was lifted from MY OWN YARD So id ont think someone is targeting me specifically Its just rotten luck on my part And yes i dont think i will ever see the scoot again Called and reported it to the police but if they never had any luck finding my first stolen scoot i dont give them much chance of success finding this one I pick up my new Aprilia next week and that one is defiantly going in the garage when home and getting a couple sets of locks for that one And I will always use the locks Take care and ride safely dear friend Yours Hank

Hank you need to move out here. I never lock anything. We used to park our trucks at our downtown office full of tools unlocked with the keys in them never lost any of them... The scoot is right in front of my office window now, unlocked...
So Hank, was that a no to the vigilante hardcore Scooter Justice Squad?

I was able to recover only 1 of my stolen scoots. That is because the brilliant thieve lived in an apartment complex about 3 miles from me. One day on my way to a college class I passed by and saw it. He had parked it in his numbered...designated parking spot! Absolutely a genius he was. So I called the Police...they went to his apartment and got him. Part that sux..is that as usual...thieves tear a scooter up badly....half the plastic was busted or missing... Frame was even bent and did ride straight..ended up using it as a 'parts bike'... I am not a hating man..but I DO HATE A THIEF!!!!

Hank,
My deepest sympathies! I know EXACTLY how you feel... and THEN some Thieves got my last beloved Harley the same way. AND... It was chained to a post and blocked by my two cars. A little girl saw the whole thing. A van pulled up and 8 outlaw bikers jumped out. 4 guys got on each end of my Oldsmobile and lifted it up and moved it out of the way of the hog. Then one guy sprayed Freon on my "unbreakable" titanium chain, freezing it and hitting it with a hammer. It shattered.
Then, 4 of them picked up my beautiful full-dress Electra-Glide and tossed it through the van's open back doors. As a "goodbye" message to show me their disapproval of me blocking the bike with my cars, they put a .44 Magnum round through the hood of my Olds, and through the engine block. The whole deal took less than 3 minutes.
Both my bike and car were insured "in Illinois" as I just moved from there to Texas. My Insurance agent "regretted" that since the crime took place outside of Illinois, my vehicles were NOT covered. So much for the "Good-Hands" people.
That was in 1979, and I never was able to afford another bike. Sorta lost heart until just 5 years ago, when I discovered Chinese scoots... Such is life... However there are paybacks sometimes. The same bunch of low-lives returned to my "hood" a few months later to steal one more hog... THIS bike however, belonged to a Class III-licensed firearms dealer. AND he caught them in the act.
Upon confronting the miscreants, the owner immediately took one round of buckshot from the thieves' lookout. He returned fire with a 100-round burst from an M-60, which permanently ended the careers of 7 of these murdering bike thieves. The bike owner survived. The thieves did NOT.
Nobody ever said this life would be EZ...
Leo (in total sympathy with you) in Texas
PS: The first question I get asked when relating this story to any of my liberal, anti-gun pals is: "My GOD! What did the POLICE have to say about it?!!!!!"
What DID the Dallas Police have to say about it on the 6-O'clock news? Quote: "GOOD SHOOTING!"

I'm with Payneib on this one. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it was the same bunch of lowlifes who took the Puma. You might wish to consider a CCT camera in front of your garage and (if you haven't already) an alarm system FOR YOUR HOUSE (just in case they come back for "seconds")

Yup! THESE types have a REALLY nasty habit of coming back for more, once they've had success. Quite often, they'll wait a month or so, in case you had the vehicle insured. They want to be sure to come back AFTER you replace it, so they can steal a nice, new one. Trust me, I know this from experience too...Watch yer' six... Leo

This is why (even if it's just to buy a soda) I CHAIN my scoot. Even if it's a large scoot, all it takes is four guys lifting together and it's gone in the blinking of an eye.

You also may wish to purchase and install GPS tracking units in the scoots. That would in the event of theft, lead the police right to the miscreant"s front door.

[replyingto=oldchopperguy]oldchopperguy[/replyingto]This reminds me of an incident long ago 1975 or so. I was a high school kid working at the local supermarket. We had a parking lot on the side of the store for us workers. we came out one night and my friend's hood was popped. ( you could open them from the front back then) upon inspection, someone stole his battery.... bummer right? So he bought a new one. The next night, his hood was popped again, and his old battery was sitting on the ground in front of the car... Brand new one....gone

Hankers, I'm really sorry about Spectre getting stolen. That xus. A lot.
Leo, I'm still marvelling that only 8 guys, not matter how beefy, could lift an OLDSMOBILE out of the way! It took five guys just to lift my Olds' back end and shift it a foot, so the other car's bumper was out of my wheel well. And when he stalled in the intersection, I worried the cop who pushed him back was gonna' have a stroke, or even explode. He was straining that much. Big fat heavy good cushy cars!
