My gas tank (above carb mounted) is about 1.25 gallons, when it gets to .25 gallons or so it bogs down, won't reach decent rpms, and all around runs like crap, what gives? I assumed it would run consistent until empty? It did it today with me and my wife on it where cruising at 45 mph for a few miles then when I went to go faster it bogged down and would not eccelerate! Is this normal? I filled it up with has and all was good.

It has to be fuller than that. Mine does the same thing when it is close to low. The fuel isnt all at the bottom of the tank especially when you are taking corners and going over bumps ect. Therefore it is not going to be getting enough gas to sustain high rpms

Less room for gunk to float around? Moisture?

You could have a very small vaccum leak, don't normally notice it because your tank can normally gravity feed but when their isn't the weight of a fuller tank of gas on it your not getting enough fuel, and what indymoped said too.

I have the SAME problem... Yours is the first post I've seen on this.
My scoot is now 5 years old, and long ago, I replaced the vacuum petcock with a manual one, along with new, quality fuel lines and filter. My scoot is the same, with gravity-feed tank and when it gets down to below a quarter-tank or so on the gauge, it craps out. I have no leaks or obstructions... After all this time, I'm just used to it and be SURE to gas up when the gauge gets near 1/4... Thinking it might be a vacuum problem as the tank empties, I've tried removing the gas-cap, but it doesn't matter.
There must be a "hump" in the tank bottom, or maybe the fuel outlet is "tall" allowing the fuel to stop flowing long before the tank is dry. Whatever it is, I've just learned to live with it.

IF you have a PETCOCK that is screwes into the tank the problem is the LONG PLASTIC PIECE on it. TAKE that off and more gas will drain out the outlet. Alleyoop

howdy, if you are talking about a fuel injected engine, what you may be experiencing is leakage in the pick up hose where it connects to the filter. piaggios had that problem because the europeans weren't designing for ethanol fuel and used the wrong hoses and connectors.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken
