So yesterday I do a complete tune up on my scooter. After I clean up my mess and give it a wash and wax I pull around front and cruise the parking lot just to make sure she's still good. After stopping and talking with my neighbor who happens to be my cousin I fire it back up and get ready to park back in the backyard like always. Just as I pull off and give it a little gas I proceed to take my hand off the throttle and it happens. Instead of winding down it idles high and takes off. Instead of dumping the scooter I stay on cause there are kids outside. I try using my brakes FAIL! After clearing the kids and other people I yank the bike to the ground like wrestling a bull down by the horns. After several xrays and ct scans and a fractured knee I'm home. First thjng I do is fire it bacc up. Turned over with no problems. Now the wife wants to dismantle and get rid of it...YA RIGHT!!! Time to figure out what went wrong and rebuild.
Need new plastics for the right side mirror and all. Wanna do all new wiring, brakes, carb and engine as well as throttle. Can someone point me in the right direction? I don't wanna do any bbk wanna keep it as stock as possible.

Why you wanna replace the engine and carb? I'd just look at the throttle, throttle cable and throttle components on the carb.

I would also look at that small rubber piece that goes over the throttle cable to protect it from dirt. This can move and get caught.

The rubber piece like and the vac line that runs to the intake manifold. if it isn't in it's clip it can get caught up and hold your throttle open. It happen to me once after doing carb work but I will lucky enough to hit the kill switch. Take your seat and bucket out and turn the throttle (while not running) and you may see what it's hanging up on.

Good safety reminder for all to practice shutting off their scoots with the kill switch, I know I do, I usually just turn the ignition off.

MSF drills that in to use the kill switch in an emergency. That is why it is placed by you right thumb where you can accidently hit it so that some spend days trying to figure out why their bikes won't start.

Yep it shouldn't be a thought at all just normal reaction. I am glad no kids were hurt and that you are relatively ok but do get in the practice of always using the kill switch so next time you won't have to wrestle it like a steer

yeah I agree it should be a normal reaction. but for a first time scooter owner all I thought about were the kids around me. I am definitely going to get into a msf class. in order to take one of their courses do you need your permit first?
