You want to run the diesel cause it has a lot more additives and it being thicker helps with air cooled engines

I doubt it helps. Running a properly viscous air cooled motorcycle oil with no additives at all is better. Especially since you have no oil filter to pull all the crap those additives are holding suspended out. I know why you do it I have been on this board for a while. I just don't understand why you would want to unless you really have nothing more than a rudimentary understanding of what oil does.

I run Rotella 15w-40 in all of my gasoline engines that spec for it. Scoot, boat, OPE. Its good oil. Just because it was designed for a diesel doesn't mean it will not work in a gasoline engine... unless you have nothing more than a rudimentary understanding of what oil does. Personally I see no sense in putting synthetic oil in a scooter, or anything for that matter.

I use Shell Rotella Synthetic in all my bikes for years,, The Diesel oil has a much better additive package than most if not all MC oils at half the price,,additive packages with phosphorus and zinc are very good for a MC motor.those MC snake oils are hard on the wallet just for a fancy lable.Diesel oil is the best thing for a MC engine hands down

At least Chinese motors are inexpensive. Running tractor oil won't matter all that much something will eventually break no matter what oil you run.

An air-cooled engine is one of the few places where I would run synthetic...they run hot and are notably brutal on oil. But yeah, it's usually a waste of money. I run diesel oil (currently Rotella) in my Jeep in the summer--and the wear numbers are superb. (Exact word used by the lab that analysed it.)
