Hey guys , lets take a moment to remember what Memorial Day is all about . I am no great public speaker , so I will do the best I can . If not for the past and present Vets that served/serve in the armed forces . The so bravely fought on the front lines in past and present conflicts . We need to remember if not for there sacrifice and valor . The way of life as we are living at this moment could be very different . If not for them I could be posting this in a different language or if at all . Take a moment and thank the United States Military Personal past and present . I know there are many vets on this forum . I'm unsure of who all of them are , I know two are mods here , and we have many members as well . I have seen some of the vets here not seeing eye to eye . The details of that are not the point , for a few days it would be very encouraging to see you guys get along . For one time you fought together hard with the same goal in site .
Some like to say hug a vet , thank a vet , shake a vets hand . Be as it may , my hand is out my arms are opened and thank you .
Like I stated above I don't know every veteran here but , I would like too .
John

Very nice and thoughtful of you John. I personally do not look for accolades or praise I was drafted and just happened I was picked for NAM and poop happened. Saw a lot of combat and buddies killed and maimed. I was one of the lucky ones to make it out alive. The disability I got I consider minor and am lucky compared to what others came out with and many did not make it. Thank you Bud Alleyoop

I'm one of the lucky ones because I made it home. A lot of my buddies in the Corps didn't. Please remember them. Semper Fi.

Yeah thanks to everyone who serves/served.
I wish General Patton did not die in a German Hospital and went and took over Russia during the war.

Memorial Day is a very special day for me. A day of reflection on days gone by and a reminder to all of those that have given so much, even their lives so that all can enjoy the freedoms that we all have.
One thing we all share is that we all have a family member somewhere in our family tree that has served.
My American Legion will once again be spending the day going 7 different cemeteries to honor those that have gone before us. Our local Pastor will read the names of those that have pasted, our Color Guard will fire a 21 gun salute and finally our bugler will play taps. As the former Commander I can tell you it is a very moving ceremony and does make one think.
Please take a moment this weekend to reflect and remember our past and present service men and women.
Please take a moment and watch:

Thank you John for remembering our vets.
I am a veteran of the U. S. Air Force; 1973-1977. I was fortunate to be born when I was and as such, did not have to face the hells of war. I volunteered because it was what the men folk of my family did......we served our country. I do not regret a single second of my military career. In fact, I'm quite proud of it and I love being called a veteran.
But, I do not hold myself in the same esteem as the veterans who have braved the of war. I hold these fine men and women in the highest regard possible...they sit upon the golden throne....they drink the finest wine...they sleep on silk sheets...they earned the respect, honor and privileges our citizens should bestow upon them. It's a shame it has taken this long for our country to wake up and bestow the honor and thank you our veterans are now rightly receiving. It wasn't always so. Ask a Vietnam Nam vet.
Freedom isn't free. We've all heard that saying time and time again. But it's true. If you love your freedom, thank a vet. If you love your country, thank a vet. If you love worshiping God in the church of your choice, thank a vet. If you choose not to believe in God, thank a vet. See the trend here? THANK A VET!!!
Thank you, my fellow vets, for granting me the freedom to write what I feel compelled to on this forum. For without your scrafices, we would not enjoy the life style we have become accustomed to, and sometimes take for granted.
Rest in peace my fallen heros. You have all earned the restful sleep our God has granted you. Fear not for your families, for those of us who have survived will take care of them.
I love and miss you Dad.
