i have a new taotao 150 with only 300 miles, the speedometer quit working and a few days later i got in a wreck and rear ended a truck now the tach doesnt work right it bounces around and odometer doesnt work at all like the speedometer anyone have any ideas what the problem is?? i have a 6 month parts warranty so and advise would be helpful. also i just changed out the break in oil with 10-40 motorcycle oil for wet clutch i think, is this the right stuff or should i use something else? i ride 30 miles to work everyday and it rides about 50-55 mph, i would like to get around 65 what are some cheap easy mods i can do to speed this thing up??

the general consensus is to use 15w40 for the first 1000 miles changing it frequently since you already have 300 you might want to change it like 2 or 3 more times then at 1000 you could switch to 5w40 for better protection I dont know about the tach but theres a speedometer cable that runs from right under the speedometer gauge to somewhere there is a speedometer puck on the side of the front wheel where it bolts to the fork it could of came loose or broke its a good idea to keep it lubricated on the inside it spins around really fast in there and could wear down and break over time 50-55 sounds like a good top speed you might be able to gain a few mph with a more high flow air filter air filter, less restrictive exhaust, rejetting and tuning the carb but if you want that 5mph increase or more youre looking at big bore kit and getting a better carb and cam

150s are good for 50-55mph, to get them to crank over 60-65 you will need to put in taller gears. A bbk will get you more low end torque but nothing on the top end. But with it you will have plenty of power to pull taller gearing for more top end speed. Alleyoop

high performance cylinder head for higher compression too the more mods like that that you do to it will decrease the longevity in the long run

I can't say why they don't work but good luck with the warranty.

Does the speedo work or just the odometer does not work? Look behind the instrument panel and see maybe a wire came off the tach, ground, voltage etc..
Since you ran into something front end Check the Speedo cable at the wheel and at the instrument panel. Alleyoop

the speedometer and odometer are most likely tied together operated by the same cable like alley said check those connections

fixed the speedo, there was a washer between the wheel and speedo gear that was flattened, but still dont know why the tach is acting weird like saying its 4000 rpm at idle when i kno the idle is low maybe 1800 at most....and odometer still not working..??

Well the way it works is the Speedo cable turns some gears and the there is a reduction gear that turns the ODMETER gear which has the numbers on it. With the impact it might have missaligned the gears so you will have to take the speedo out and check the gear that turns the ODMETER gear.
The Tach same thing take it out and see if any of the wires that are connected on the electrical board of the tach came of or touching or something. Alleyoop

30 miles per day at 65 MPH really requires a 250cc or better. You'll just beat that 150 to an early grave and end up spending more than if you had just gotten a 250 in the first place.
How hard did you hit the truck? Warranty should be void now as a scooter would be considered totaled most times as it would cost more than the bike is worth to actually certify that it had no frame damage.
Did you get a ticket for the moving violation and any points on your license?
