Hey guys, love the new forum! Great guides, discussions, etc. I opened the valve cover today to do my valves, and the upper chain guide is torn up! I should have grabbed a pic, but didn't think of it at the time. I haven't seen this addressed anywhere. Is it easy to replace? The bike is running fine as is, but I want it right! Can it be replaced without splitting the case? Is there a video somewhere I missed? Thanks for any advice! Sean

Yes it is easy to replace, you have to take the CVT cover off and the Variator out. Behind it little about the CRANK sticking out you will see a plug usually it is a Alan Type of screw, That screw holds the Cam Guide Tensioner in place about the chain on the crank sprocket. First you want to take the TENSIONER off and then unscrew that screw behind the Variator and pull the Guide out. Alleyoop

Thanks Alleyoop. I should be able to pull it Tuesday morning. I'll try to remember to post pics. Luckily I have a parts bike I can pull from until new parts get here.

Is this the screw holding the guide? Just want to make sure before I start pulling stuff loose(plus, I don't have a hex wrench that fits it!). BTW, this is my parts bike, the good one is not rusted like that! Attachments:

You have to release the tension when you reinstall it or you will ruin the new cam chain guide. Most people destroy the chain guide by removing the tensioner and not reseting it when putting it back.
You will need to remove the cam first in order to replace the guide so make sure you have the holes in the cam gear lined up at TDC before you take anything apart and then be sure to not rotate the crank. This will simplify getting the timing right when you put it all back together.
Once it is all back together be sure to unload the tensioner and then slowely release it so it does not over tension the cam chain. Don't let the spring snap it back or turn it past where the spring stops pulling or you will distort the guide and over tension the chain putting you right back where you started.

Thanks Rocky, I actually ended up putting it off until Saturday, so that will be good to know.
