I'm just curious. my 50cc scooter has valve cover vent connected to air box. and I would like to know what does the valve cover vent do? what is it's function? also I found lots of oil soaked into the sponge inside the air box. is it normal thing?
thanks.

The Valve Cover Vent hose vents the pressure in the crankcase. So if you happen to overfill the crankcase with oil it squirts it out through the hose and that is why you have oil soaked filter.
Now it has to vent so a soaked filter is restricting it from venting so Clean the OIL FILLED FILTER. I would pull the hose off that little box and take a fuel filter put it on the end of the Hose and Zip Tie it high on the frame so it it does squirt oil out it will drain back down and it will still vent. Also note that the purge tube connected on the other side of the air box is supposed to be drained at every oil change. If you don't drain it then it will overflow the airbox. If the tube overflows before the next oil change than you potentially have valves that are out of adjustment being too far open causing excessive blow by. The vent tube is primarly to relieve crankcase pressure so you don't blow out your seals and gaskets.

Sorry for being such a noob but where is the purge tube located? It is usually on the left side of the bike laying below the air box just above the CVT cover and should have a plastic plug in the end of the clear hose. There is usually a small accumulation of oil in it.

Ok, that's what I thought. I have never seen any oil in it, all the oil is usually covering the lower part of my engine.
