That's not exactly correct,
What happends is, the hospital bills the injured, if they don't pay then it goes to a collection agency, if again the injured don't pay, then the collection agency gets a garnishment from the injured work.
The bill never goes away, unless it's dismissed by a bankruptcy... so the taxpayers paying for it is not accurate.... Ohhh and btw, the collection agency often buys the bill from the hospital, sometimes for penny's on the dollar that's true, in cases where they don't buy the bill they are working for a percentage of what they collect.. But the bill is settled... The only thing we taxpayers are really paying for is the emergency services used for the injured...
