Unless someone has a 2003 version it is a guessing game. Just take the CVT cover off and look between the Variator you will be able to see if it has a WASHER or not. Alleyoop

yeah, remove washer, or air intake/exhaust restricter, or change CDI.
You can hope to gain ~5-10MPH that way.

Alleyoop Hi Alley makes a good point, but another way to possible see if you 50 cc scoot is restricted in any way without taking anything apart is to determine the top speed it is capable of achieving If the scoot can go over 30mph most likely the scoot is not restricted Take care and ride safely Yours Hank

you can test to see if the CDI is restricted by putting it on it's center stand and running WOT. (not recommended for long times). If it seems all to go pretty nice, the CDI is the restricter. If it seems like the engine is going to explode, or the tire goes so fast the bike is literally jumping on it's center stand, then the CDI is not restricted. An unrestricted 50cc 4 stroke should do 10.5-11k RPM unrestricted

[replyingto=prodigit]prodigit[/replyingto]DO NOT rev your 4 stroke to 10.5 -11k as Hank mentioned before. Valve float on those starts to occur a bit over 8,000 rpm. Where the delay in the valve returning to its seat may collide with the piston...unless you can find the heavy duty Titanium valve springs for it. Those reduce valve float..but their high tension shortens the life of the valve and valve seat. I have seen where they actually caused a cupping on the top of the valve by the shear power in which they force the valve into the seat. Excellent for racing though..where engines are expected to have a short life span. For derestriction on any scoot..start with the CVT..check for a ring in between the 2 halves that keep pulleys from closing all the way. Rare these days is a scoot that is restricted by the CDI. Instead they use a ring in the CVT..or extra heavy rollers to put a load on the engine so it does not rev that high. Many want to jump right in and use a massive main jet...which does no good except make you run rich..in fact it will even cause slower speeds...unless you have a Tao Tao and now some of the newer Sunny Scoots that come jetted so lean...that the engine runs hot and fries. This done to appease the EPA as it reduces emissions. Until your engine is tuned to its maximum in stock form..all the aftermarket 'Go Fast' parts are useless. Start with the easy and free to low cost up grades first. Then add ONE performance piece at a time and check for improvement. Reason I say this is...it is easy to diagnose..cause if it does not run right...guess what?.. easy answer..it is the last part you put on. All to often(daily) we see posts. "I have a stock 4 stroke Scooter..I added a # jet instead of the #74 that it came with..put on a Big Bore Kit...performance exhaust...free flow air filter..performance CDI.. a 22mm carb...high flow ported head...put in a bigger pilot jet and now it wont run right...what is wrong with it?" <-- good example of one part at a time....and the problem would have been obvious...it was the last part you added. ;D Sure saves you lots of frustration..and gets you on the road quicker..

DX Tiny tach works great. either that or use your smart phone/tablet/laptop to record the sound and deduct the RPM's from that (or install a free instrument tuner, shows Hz).

Correction Carasdad it was NOT HANK that said that the 50 4Ts can be revved to 10-11K it was Prodigit. And your correct just about all your 4Ts the REDLINE starts at 8K, which if you ever ran them that high the motor is SCREAMING. I know from experience ;D If you get a tach that has like 3 wires 1 ground 1 feed and 1 for lighting there is a way to hook up the tach. But the easiest is to get a something like this, takes 5 minutes to install and it works great. Also it registers right away not like some of the others which have a delay before they register the rpms. Alleyoop SCROLL DOWN AND YOU CAN SEE IT WORKING: www.trailtech.net/tto_tach-hour.html

Well you can...if you want to disassemble your engine without tools even... ;D
