Well, When I start my scooter and the engine is cold, it sounds quiet, I dont hear any valve tapping at all. after a few minutes of driving, I start to hear tapping.. It isnt extremely loud, but its loud enough to be noticeable, and its got me worried.. It just started this bout a week ago. and its seems to be getting louder... I have no loss of power, and to be honest the scooter runs absolutely great. should I be concerned??

Have you changed your oil lately? I would not be to concerned with light tapping. It is better for the valves to be a little loose than to be tight. These scooter engines have solid tappets, not hydraulic tappets.

As a matter of fact, I changed the oil this morning to see if it would quiet down... I regularly change my oil every 1000 miles give or take a 100 miles or so

oh yea?? well this one isnt new... its a 2010 yy50qt-6 just had 2000 miles on it when I got it, just turned over 4500 yesterday... but this thing is still in almost new condition, I seriously take care of this thing... I attempted to check my valve clearance's today, but I couldnt get the bottom two bolts off the valve cover... I have a cheap set of chinese sockets aswell.. so I am gonna have to go buy an 8mm wrench ffs. But I really hate to even take anything apart on this scooter, just for the fact that it runs so good and so much power, I would hate to Screw something up, while trying to make it better...

also, im just kinda curious.. how many miles is considered ALOT of miles on these 50cc gy6's? I have had a 150cc... (I drove it with no exhaust whatsoever because it broke off and after about 5 hundred miles or so the motor completely lost compression) I had another 2009 50cc Peace (not quite sure why but at about 7000 miles the head got screwy somehow and I cant set the valve clearance anymore.. because the valve literally touches the rocker arm even if the tappet is completely out) which really sucks because that thing is a "secret 63" and it hauled some serious . but thos one kinda hauls too, but I havent seen any markings to say its a 63... I also had a 2002 Chinese scoot with a 2 stroke engine that was a complete piece of utter crap. but to be fair, I bought it from a guy on craigslist for 100 dollars, and it was beat all to living by the time I got it. but damn that thing was slow lol... The motor completely seized on me one day while driving it lol! it was crazy... it had about 6000 miles on it if im remembering correctly...

man I really miss that 150.. It was a JMStar with an upjetted carb, and a UNI filter, thing would freaking fly... I was seriously putting 250 to 300 miles a WEEK on that thing, for about a year before it crapped out... i wish I wouldve just parked the damn thing until I bought the new header pipe for it, instead of driving it to work.... If I could only go back in time

Well I have a 50cc well "83cc" bike with 10,147 miles and is doing good but I have had to replace the piston, rings head etc, because i got it when it had 5,000 and had seen hardly any matinance. But high miles in my opinion is anywhere from 5,000 if it is not taken care of to 10,000 or more if it is.

my cy50-t3 makes the same sound. Valves have been set twice and still does it. Runs great. Must be the norm.

hmm alright... well that sound makes me feel better, but the mileage thing does not... .. this is my only transportation and I really hope im not be out of a ride again in a few thousand more miles.... I have put that that 2500 miles in only a few months... it took me forever and a day with no job to be able to buy this damn thing used.. if I have to buy another one I am gonna be up a creek.

Keep it stock and change fluid often. You should get plenty of reliable miles out of it. These things are so finicky and any change in air and fuel throws the whole thing out of wack.

I have seen these bikes get 20,000 without a problem mine was never taken care of and got to 5,000 then I got it so if you maintain it you got nothing to worry about.
