I was thinking swap to e85. That stuff really has some power. I ran some in a 50cc 4 stroke. Aviation Gas for High Compression Aircraft piston engines is a good idea. Jet fuel is Kerosene, so not going to work. You could retard the timing, take the flywheel key out and set the timing wherever you want.

My high school buddy races Super Modified and Sprint Car class here at the Racetrack. He linked me to articles by motorcycle hill climbers...motorcycle drag racers and other 2 wheel Motorsports hot rodders. They add Xylene to their gas. My buddy makes his own Sprint Car gas @ 108 Octane..Wayyy more than I need. But I found a calculator for small engines like scoots...Go Karts and small Quads...Dirtbikes etc. The Xylene will allow you to make Octane from pump gas. Only prob is the site says Xylene is super hydroscopic and the mix must be used within a week. Oddly as many believe..higher Octane pump gas does not give more power..it just gets rid of your 'ping' from detonation. But my buddy mixes Xylene with gas for his Grandsons 90cc 2T Quad and Yamaha PW80. he makes it for them and 108 for his Sprint Car. It somehow does increase power...blew me away. NEVER have I ridden a kids size Quad or Dirtbike that had so much power. He gave me the formula his pit crew uses..but it is 108 AND they make it in a steel drum..55 Gallons at a time just before they head to the track. I would NOT run 108 in a scoot. 55 gallons is also way more than I could use in a year. He just drives I guess...and does not know the formula so I could make it Octane. I think all Dave knows is...DRIVE FAST!!! TURN LEFT!!.. It has an odd but 'all out power' smell when it burns in the Quad and Dirtbike...and talk about power..whoa! I tried to pick apart his formula to make true Octane...but all that math gave me an "Algebra Migraine".. Then I found a calculator online where you get to choose what Octane rating you desire..and it tells you how much Xylene per gallon...NOT per 55 gallons. But I am afraid to try it..even though he says he has run it in the Quad and Dirtbike for 3 years with no issues. Anybody here ever mix some? Got any input on it?

E- but there goes your mpg. Would probably run way lean...E85 needs to be MUCH richer than gas!

Sorry Glenn, I posted the StarTron link just because you mentioned that you had not heard of it. StarTron by itself won't fix your issue, but it will help to maintain the quality of the fuel in your system, and thereby the octane level as well.

I read up on it and it will work great fro out other scoots.. The Xylene premix gas is working good in my scoot...'ping' is gone..Varoom!..*sniff sniff*....smell that?...smells like Darryl Waltrip just drove by.. ;D If it's good enough for NASCAR...it's good enough for me.

... when I get gas 1/2 tank is the 87 from the car before me..which is still in the gas pump system...the rest is octane. ... Carry a gas can. Pump a half gallon into the can and then pump octane into your scooter. Pour the crap gas into your cage.

Pump a half gallon into the can and then pump octane into your scooter. Pour the crap gas into your cage. Thanks! That is what scootnwinn suggested. Worked well when I tried it twice. Now messing with Xylene. Funny as how Race Car drivers...Drag Racers...Motorcycle Hillclimbers and many others have been using it for years...yet kept it a secret from the scoot community. I always wondered why their exhaust smelled different...hard to explain...but sure you have smelled it. It's a 'raw power' smell...and unlike just a higher Octane pump gas that rids these high compression Race type 2T BBK's...it gives a tad more power. My buddy who races Sprint Cars and Super Modified told to get it at Home Depot or Menards. So I go in..ask for it..and find out it's in the paint section...it's a paint thinner!.. Paint thinner added to fuel?? So I called his Pit crew boss and asked again...yup..I had the right stuff he said. I wonder what other 'go fast' secrets they all have kept from us..

The ethanol in your gas is not the problem except if it has absorbed some water. But you actually could solve your problem with ethanol. I can almost guarantee you if you put e- in it your will never have another problem with knocking. But you will need to upjet since ethanol's stochiometric ratio is lower than gas. Gasoline is 14.7:1 and I believe Ethanol is around 12:1. Ethanol also burns at a lower temperature which is always nice when you have an air cooled engine. Your mileage will suffer tho. Probably drop off about 15-20 mpg.
