I need to insert a new bushing on a variator that has 500 miles on it. Yupp it wobbles to much. Can you buy those things.

What kind of Variator have you got? All the Variators I have seen have no bushing that you can take out and replace. You have to buy the whole Variator with the backplate as one. Alleyoop

Tractor Supply company and other farm supply businesses sell them. But all I have ever seen are SAE not metric. But then also I have never seen one you can remove as they are like Arbor pressed in..or one piece heated the other frozen and pressed in? Not sure how it's done..but in all my years working on these scoots..I have yet to see one that comes. You may find one at Grainger they carry metric bushings. Just look for 'Bronze oil lite bushing'...

Wow! Have NEVER seen that before..were they hard to press out? But then never seen replacement bushing either...times have changed since you and I were young. Remember when mechanics fixed stuff?...now they just swap out parts.. It breaks...ya don't fix it..just buy a new one and plug our landfills with a repairable item...

Couple of taps with a socket and a hammer. On these scooters the original parts are better than the replacements. I save the old stuff and use it to fix the new stuff. Ha.

If it is stock variator , I have a few variator sets that I split for parts .
I thought it was for a 150cc not a 50cc . I have stock and proformance variators for the 50cc .

You need to go to an industrial supply that sells bearings and sheeves. The should be able to measure the parts up and look up the Boston Bronze, Sintered Bronze or Oilite bushing from the general catalog. The bushing material may only be available in a 6 inch or 12 inch stock length that you will have to cut to the length that you require or you may have to purchase a blank and have a local machine shop mill it down for you (cheaper just to buy a new variator then). The either used bright brass or dried out Oilite in your variator or possibly somone cleaned it in a solvent and washed out the Oilite causing it to fail.

It's wierd, all the aftermarket variators have bushing wearout fast. Somethings up. I don't know what. I have started using Fluid Film on the remaining variators I am using. Will see if that helps keep the bushing from wearing out. This stuff is the BomB www.fluid-film.com/
