Hello,
Some of you may have seen the issues I have been having with my new scooter...
It has come down to the compression as to the reason why it is not starting up.
Replacing the top end does not seem that hard. I have watched some videos and found some step by step instruction in how to replace the piston and head etc...
Has anyone on this forum tried to replace the piston and or head?
I have found some websites that sell the rebuild kits..any reputable stores?
...I'm not sure if I should go with JUST a piston and ring kit - or a kit that includes the head as well as the valves and gaskets (rebuilding everything) within the kit I have seen them on eBay for $80 or so...
Thanks!
Nathan

...lets just say it was at zero - or next to zero...
I put some oil in the plug hole as was suggested and it "seemed" to get better...but the pressure dissipated after a little bit.
Tried the finger test and its not coming close to blowing my finger off - definitely nowhere near 100psi or so.
It also leaks oil every time I crank it over - could it be just the head gasket?
Thanks!

Leaks oil from where? What part of the engine?...may be oil rings are shot.

It's a little hard to tell with engine case on ... What it looks like it's coming from the muffler outlet

I assume you adjusted the valves already, correct?

It's a little hard to tell with engine case on ... What it looks like it's coming from the muffler outlet I'd take the shroud off of the engine and look. You're going to have to with a rebuild--- if it comes down to it. Any oil leaking in there is going to escape that route, possibly. While it's off, take a look around to see if maybe you can see anything that could be a clue as to what is wrong, and exactly where the oil leaking from---or it's just oil being funneled downward from the valve cover being off..or both. How many miles your scooter?

If your going to pull the head you may as well replace the rings too as long as your in there already. But before you do that set your valve lash. You could just have a valve hung open.

The scooter has about 3400 miles on it...
Is the plastic shroud a pain to remove?
I have adjusted the valves already, and I changed the oil too.... The oil that is leaking out looks newer. It just drips down when its being cranked over.

might as well put in a big bore kit if you got to replace the stuff

Big bore kit, maybe.... If it was me, with that many miles on the bottom end, I'd just get a top end kit and head and call it good. Especially if you don't want to mess with jetting etc.
is it a 150cc?

see if you can wiggle the crankshaft on the variator side. If you are going with a BBK like 80cc + you may want to do it with a new crankshaft at the same time. The BBk is easier to install with the engine on the bench.

Correct - it is 150cc
I looked at the BBk but is it really worth it? I would probably need to make other mods as well right?
I would like to try and avoid having to drop the engine if possible...
Thanks!

dropping the engine in these bikes is really easy... is it a short case mono shock? (one shock in the rear)... Thems are like 25 minutes to get it out and maybe about 35 to get it back in. Easier then trying to do it in the bike. Believe me.
Variator weights are the biggest bang for the buck... then like a 115mm variator would be the second thing I'd get. Exhuast and unifilter would be next but they don't give you the performance boost that the wieghts will. Exhuast and unifilter are usually done at the same time, and you would need to rejett the carb at that point.
