So my scooter has had its identity stolen by some guy im going to assume is a dick because i said so. I purchased a scooter completly stock, the vin is uniform from the first star to the last , with a title and bill of sale. I then spent countless hours neglecting my girlfriend and obsessing over my scoot only to be ready for paint and a trip to the keys to find out its vin has been registered to a green scooter out of nevada. Im now out some money for the scooter but more importantly my time=( . With no legal recourse or way to ride the streets without big brother stealing my liscense as well ..=((

[replyingto=teddy554]teddy554[/replyingto]yea the only thing i could have done to better protect myself was run the vin before i purchased it then i could have seen the vehicle exists however the name of the current owner and the owner on my title didnt match..my best guess on what has happened is someone in nv had a vin almost exact as mine with lets say a 6 where i have an 8. they most likley had a lien on there scooter or something stopping them from selling or re registering the bike and then changed that 6 to an 8 and convinced the dmv they made a mistake. now i have the same vin as there alleged vin and dont know how i can prove mines the original..these are all just guesses though. the factcs i have are i hired a tag man ive done alot of buisness with to go register my bike while i was at work its his profession and he does it all day. he went there and was told the title was turned in in nv and its registered to a green scooter. he then came to me took pictures of my vin and went back to the registry with a title all filled out and the photos of my vin and was turned away due to the fact nv has my vin registered to a green scooter already

Had the exact same thing happen to me with a 1974 VW Camper van I had. The VIN claimed by the DMV was registered to a 1996 Chevy Cavalier in sunny CA. Well I have seen the VIN plate on both mine and on a cavalier and there is NO similar anything. I was totally screwed when proving this via photos and a legit title for the VW.

Could be a typo somewhere . I switched insurance carriers and the HP came to my house asking why I no longer had insurance . I showed him I did and that both are insured . My agent mistyped in the VIN on my Echarm

That sucks, and I am sure these Chinese scooters are not perfect with the VINs.
