Use what the manufacter says. Regular @ first, then full synthetic after some miles. K Wayne.

The main reason im leaning towards the Rotella is that there are additives that are beneficial which the 10w40 does not have. As long as she warms up its still a 40 weight oil either way with the added protection. All manufacturers put additives in their oils. Even the off shelf / white label / Local store brands. Some brands have a better mix of additives, and a track record that confirms the effectiveness of the additives. My personal favorites are Valvoline & Mobil. Other brands that are quite established, and good brands imho are: Pennzoil, Castrol, and Lucas oil. Lesser known brands, that seem ok in my opinion are: Royal purple, Shell Oils I personally would not buy, but which are not necessarily bad oils, but less on my 'to buy' list are: Peak, Bikers Choice, Redline (generally too expensive), Maxima, PJ1, Silkolene, Stens

I personally like Shell products, I've had great results with Rotella T6 synthetic 5W-40 in my Ninja 500 and my Tao Tao 50cc, but neither ever saw any summer riding when it was *F or hotter. When it gets that hot... I HAVE to duck under the cover of my air conditioned Mercedes! With summer seemingly days away (we're flirting with *F again this week) I think 15W-40 is a great choice.

How can you identify Royal Purple as a lesser known oil? It's been around for 27 years Not that I use or endorse it, just never thought of it as a 'lesser known' oil.

Oil Oil Oil, you can use just about any oil that lubricates in the little 4 bangers, the deal is to change it frequently every 500-1000 miles and you will be fine. All oils have additives some more than others. Everyone has their favorites WHY, because they heard it from someone else. I will say this no one would be able to tell the difference if I put in 10W40 GYPSY oil or 10W40 WONDER OIL in your scoot. Alleyoop

You bet Millsc, some loose there lubrication faster than others but they all are good for 500-1000 miles. I change mine every 1000 KM because mu ODAMETER is not in Miles. So when it clicks to 999 which is as high as it goes I change it, then set it to 000. It only takes what 15 minutes are so to change it and the 3/4 quarts of oil it takes after 3 quarts you have enough for another oil change so out of 3 quarts you get 4 oil changes. I use Castrol GTX 10w40 all year round on my Trike I buy it in the 5+ quart container little cheaper than buying it in quarts. Alleyoop

They may have been around for 27 years, but you never see any racing company using them. They're ok, not bad, but generally are in the wake of other brands; never doing something special to the oil themselves (like Mobil does with their extended range additives). They're known because they're cheap. They're not hi-quality.
