hello all, i'm new to scooters and being driven nuts. i've had motorcycles and dirt bikes and such and consider myself very mechanically inclined, but this has me stumped. i bought my wife a 2011 juliet 50cc so she could start the 2 wheel training and it just will not idle. i rode it up and down the road a few times and it ran great, just shuts off when you stop. it sat for about a year before i bought it and i assumed the carb was messed up. took it off, cleaned it well, no change. bought a brand new carb from the dealer, put it on and now not only will it not idle, but it's hard starting and doesn't rev easily. i've never seen a new carb actually make something run worse. any insight anybody might have would be great. maybe it has a vaccum leak? i just don't know. thanks in advance!

My romeo did the same thing. Any time i stopped it would die. I had them turn the idle down and it did better. But puma is a bad brand and their website out and out lies so be careful.

If they run and will not hold idle or low rpms the valves usually need to be adjusted. The Exhasut valves on them tighten up and loose compression when hot. So first thing is to get the valves adjusted .003 inchs on both or .003 on the Intake and .004 inchs on the exhaust which is the one that gets a lot of heat.
Did you adjust the new Carbs Fuel Ratio Mixture and idle setting or did you just slap it on. Alleyoop

I did try to adjust the idle screw, but no matter where I set it, nothing changes. As far as a fuel mix, I couldn't find any sort of adjustment on the new or old carb. I was sure if you need to pull it apart and turn jets in or out for adjustment or not. I'm just beginning to get into this issue, so I haven't done a lot of tinkering. I will figure out how to adjust valves and go from there. Any other idea's or info would be great. I'll try and be timely with the work, but I currently have an old ninja torn apart that I'm trying to get back together too, so it might be hit or miss to work on the scooter. Thanks again!

[replyingto=maroluvr8569]maroluvr8569[/replyingto]My Puma Amor 50 had the same issue with dying at idle. Between a valve adjustment (they were very tight) and adjusting the A/F mixture screw, the problem is now solved. The mixture screw was only 1 turn out, way too lean. I needed to remove the plug covering the screw on the stock carb, but the 2nd carb you bought shouldn't have the screw plugged.
