So I have been offered this scooter as a project. Its one of the many incarnations of the QJ long case Minarelli engine scooter. You might know them best as the "Vento Triton" or "Yamati RX8" or "CPI Oliver". They are all the same thing with slightly different graphics/color offerings. ANYWAY here is the issue. As you can see the ear or tab or mounting point or whatever you want to call the place the pipe bolts to the engine has been snapped clean off. Apparently some drunk college kid just kicked or stomped the pipe or something and this is the result. That and the silencer on the pipe being gone as well. So assuming I do decide to buy this bike what would yuns do? I see a few options. One is replace the engine. That would be expensive and time consuming but there it is. Two is try and find someone who could weld it back together. I know almost zero about aluminum welding and don;t own a tig welder so I would be in no position to access the difficulty of this job. Three would be aluminum welding rods or aluminum solder or whatever you want to call it. Problem is I don't own an oxy/acetalyne torch and I doubt a blow torch would get hot enough on pieces of this size. Thin metal or small pieces a blow torch will do, I donno about two pieces that big. What do yuns think? Should I just let this scooter go and not take the deal or is there an easy-ish semi-cheap way to fix this?

I've tried aluminum, welding rods, not as easy as they claim.
If you are not willing to take it to a welding shop that has the right equipment and pay them to fix it, be prepared to find another way to support that exhaust or don't buy it.

aluminum welding sticks, you can use a mapp gas torch. but it takes some practice to do it right. I would not recommend this as a practice project. Take it to a professional welder. or find another option.

You really think the one remaining mounting point would hold it?
I could just imagine hitting a bump and ripping the cylinder studs out because the last pointing point wasn't holding it.

How about a steel bracket from the motor bolt to the broken bolt holder and actually you can make the bracket adjustable to bring it up higher. Alleyoop

Ah that bracket idea is a good idea. I was thinking maybe drill a hole in the stump and make a bracket there but it would be way more sturdy where you point it out. Here is what the rest of the bike looks like. Less than 2000 miles. I really like these long case QJ 2 stroke Minarelli clones. They are the poor mans Zuma. They are fast and performance parts are everywhere for cheapsies and if you kersplode them its no big deal because they are cheap and easy to work on. Dude wants $100 and has a clean title so I reckon its not a huge gamble either way. Thanks for the advice there Alley.

howdy, this is an old farmer speaking y'know the bailing wire guy. i would probably temp up with a big zip tie around the engine mount bolt down and around the exhaust mount bolt and wait to seen how that works. or maybe even several of them. just a thought.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken
