I wanted to know if 7g weights were a good choice to start with the 15k springs and my weight of 215? You know much more than I but I haven't pulled the stock rollers out yet either and actually they're not too shabby on all three plains of start mids and top speed!! But of course I want the best for the top equation. The weight combo is different from a 50 to the 150 that I have. I have no hands on the 50 CVT so I don't have a base number to have you start with. I was hoping onewheeldrive would chime in as he appears to have some good 50 CVT experience

I’d maybe get 6.5g or 7g to start off. Maybe put the gears in first and then see.
Keep in mind you weigh about 65 more pounds than me.
With a stock 50cc I ran 6.5g With a 63cc I ran 7g With the 72cc I ran 7.5g mostly With the 72cc and the 49/17 gears I dropped back down to either 6.5g or 7g. No other mods, only bbk and upjet w/stock airbox on all my engines. I did take the snorkel off the airboxes.
I’ve never ran the 50mm piston in my engines. Keep in mind you have more power than mine but you weigh 65lbs more.
A lot of people your weight go about 5.5g for a stock 50, which is about a gram less than me stock.
I’d try the 6.5 after the gear change. Just pick a weight and roll with it, thankfully rollers aren’t too expensive.

They're not expensive. That sounds I had to buy another variator because the nice one I ordered won't arrive till the end of the month but it has 5, 7, and 9g rollers in the kit. They say a complete kit but no torque spring so I had to buy that too. Thanks for the links I bought tools from harbor. I needed spanner wrenches and a torque wrench.Nice site I hope the tools are ok. I'm hoping my studs come quickly so I can put my motor back together. The cvt should be quick. Thanks for all the info I really appreciate it. Love knowledge and it saves me frustration doing things 4 or 5 times. If I do well I might do this on the side to make some extra money. I need the bucks.

This turned into a nightmare from !! I finally got my final gear off. The videos I watched must have been a 150cc mine is behind the brakes, but I did it ma! lol i cant get my variator nut off this must be on there at 100ftlbs it won't budge. My last resort is some heat on it. This I really don't want to do, but I don't think there are any other options! You have any thoughts on this it's a right hand thread correct? I hope I'm not trying to tighten a left hand thread? Any imput would be helpful.....

What is a good brand of BBK to purchase?I'm looking for reasonably priced with excellent quality parts!! I started out with the generic 47mm bbk from Scrappydogs (their parts are good but I've had horrible experience with the company, literally had to get PayPal to intervene 5 of the 6 purchases I've made from them, about 500 dollars worth of parts total.) , hard to beat the quality for that price but I've transitioned to a 52.4mm kit, the majority of the relevant parts on my TaoTao 50 racer are Naraku now, which is twice the cost but well over twice the quality. If you plan on having that scooter for many years, youre much better off going for top shelf components as long as you have experience with this stuff, if not, practice with the cheap stuff first like I did, so if you mess something up it's not the end of your wallet.

You may want to cut the nut to get it off,,,be careful of the threads on the shaft,,,I've heard or more than one instances on the board where the crank tip sheared off

I am cutting the nut off I tried everything. Thats the last resort I was hoping I didn't have to do, but oh well happens!! Thats exactly what I'm doing is learning with the cheap stuff before I get Naraku parts for it! Good call on both replies. My dining room is a mess the scooter is almost completely apart. I'm waiting for my brother in law to go to the shop and press my new final gear in open the holes on the clutch a bit bigger for more air flow. Last but not least finding a socket big enough to take the 38mm nut off the clutch. Just waiting on parts too. Can't wait to play some more I'm having a blast doing this stuff. Seems like a good way to make some cash on the side too!!!

Keep in mind everytime you mod your scoot you may prefer a different weight roller.
From a stock scoot to a bigger bore, tranny gear change, changing the torque/contra spring... etc. Any of those mods or a combo of them and it’s likely going to be time to tweak the weights to your preference.
It might take a couple tries but you’ll learn what you and your scoot like, so it’ll be worth it in the long run. Maybe you don’t like the weights because you aren’t getting enough rpms so you decide to drop down in grams. Maybe you’ll like the stock torque/contra spring in the clutch better than the new one, same with the clutch springs.

Yeah I got it!! If I could get the nut off the variator. This thing seems like its welded on I cut the crap out of it with a nut breaker and it still won't budge. I shudder to see the threads on the crank under this nut. What a nightmare this nut is. I can't believe this thing is on as tight as it is. Inconceivable!!!

Finally cut the nut off didn't do too much damage just have to chase the threads. Now that I got all my variator parts I can't collapse the clutch spring to get my belt on. Holy crap it's just one thing after another. FYI the metric nut is 12mm x 1.25 and that will fit incase somebody needs one. Bustted the fan up getting the nut off the variator. That thing must have been torqued to 100lbs. Now I have to wait till thurs when I get some cash to get the 12mm x 1.25 die to chase the threads and order a fan nice!! The good thing is I learnt more and it's all fixable!! Cool beans!! Problem solved!

Can I put slider weights in my variator. Or is there a different type of variator to use sliders?
