I have a new taotao 150 and am considering an upgrade Scrappy's has a larger performance carburetor and exhaust that looks appealing? What would I get ? Would it be worth it to let it breathe a little without touching the base engine. Would appreciate opinions and suggestions alike. Thanks !

new taotao 150 . . larger performance carburetor and exhaust . . opinions Exercise in futility . . you have already made up your mind! There is no cure for OTS (obsessive tinkerers syndrome) . . just the desecration of relatively reliable transportation into an aggravating pile of excrement!

In my opinion these chinese scooters especially the 125 and 150 are better let alone if you want them to be reliable, but if you have the scoot only as a toy you can spend 400$ easily on the carb and exhaust maybe must play with the jets also and from my experience the quality of the parts is not that good. Good luck

I'm thinking I may just keep it stock, it runs pretty well now and it my only source of transportation at this time. Thanks everyone. Sorry Scrappy !

Same exact engine as in your tao. The carb update won't be necessary but you will need to upjet and retune your carb if you were to put an exhaust on to account for more airflow. No need to upgrade carb unless you bore it out imo. If you have access to a welder you can modify your stock exhaust. I do it on all my scoots. Totally free.. look it up!

Add that stuff if you like to tinker and tune. Otherwise, leave her stock.

depends on your head as to weather or not a muffler will do any good the longer the pipe the deaper it will sound its about three times louder than a very quiet stock muffler

Can you show us how you mod your stock exhaust? Ive seen some videos, im just curious how you do it. Im planning on modding my exhaust and re jetting the carb in the spring.

Absolutely... you'll need access to a welder

Here's the last one I did.. pics aren't the best but my materials are -bag of steel wool -bag of fiberglass mat -bailing wire -pipe (in my case I used a piece of old futon!) You're essentially tearing out the restrictions and allowing your exhaust to free flow out... fiberglass mat and wool with perforated pipe used as a muffler. Works great.. the more wool and fiberglass you use the quieter it sounds. A few pics... You'll see one of matials.. one after I had cut both ends of muffler... one of the Justin Bieber futon piece welded back into header hole... a pic of the pipe with holes drilled into it.. and also the wrapped pipe.. and of course finished product. I'm not too proud of this one because of looks but after a good grinding and some heat resistant paint it looks beautiful.

Some restricted pipes are a pain in the ads to get restrictions out of.. you'll need a torch. Take your time.. make straight cuts for the reassembly and it's a cake walk.
