Two things: One, you live in the DESERT (so do I and it gets HOT) so I use light or Hi-Viz helmet and jacket to ward off the heat. Two. People have a hard enough time seeing us as is. A light or yellow jacket and helmet will greatly increase your chances of being SEEN. If I were going to get a new scoot and riding a lot at night or in desert heat, it would NEVER be in black!

[replyingto=spandi]spandi[/replyingto]Thanks for that- the problem, is the PCX only comes in red or black and I really don't like red for myself.. it's just one of those personal things... I just really don't want a red bike... Do you think that is a big enough issue that I should think about getting a bike that I really don't like the way it looks? For the helmet and jacket, thanks. I was wondering if the coloring would make a difference. I have really only been looking at white helmets because of the heat. Definitely same idea would go for the jacket.

RE: That safety course you mentioned. Check your local laws, but where I am and lots of other states anything over a 50cc scooter requires a full motorcycle license. If your safety course is like mine, you take your written permit test first then when you complete the course you get your full class M license and can ride that nice new Honda 150.

What do you mean by the locks and chain and cable? Sorry if I should know this... There sre locks that attach to the front disc brake. Or a steel cable to put thru the front wheel and around a tree/-pole/immovabke object.

[replyingto=davec]DaveC%20%20[/replyingto]Ok, so an anti-theft device. Are those difficult to put on and take off? Are they expensive? I never thought about that before...
Is bike theft a big issue? People just pick them up and put them in a truck or something??

[replyingto=spandi]spandi[/replyingto]Are those modular helmets as good as the full face? better? Seems like a full face would be more solid and less noisy, right?

Yes theft is a major issue look for the securing your scooter thread below this one . I bought a generic modular and it feels wimpy like it would break at the hinge . I read where some have a modular Shoei and liked it . I wear a FF Gmax Platiunum around 100 bucks but am looking at the aviator style of 3/4 helmets and maybe a skateboard helmet for the summer . Make sure to get a helmet with vents as its unreal hot in the summer without vents

[replyingto=skuttadawg]skuttadawg[/replyingto]Ya I kind of get the gut feeling a strong impact at the wrong place on one of those modulars and it might not be good... obviously I am just guessing on that...
