So I have a Chinese 150cc scooter. Love the little thing. Have been using it to go to work 2 miles away and also joy riding around our little town. (Lake Havasu) So I rode it so much I ended up needing to replace the cheap tires. Decided to get Perelli scooter tires. And while I was doing that I also decided to order some "performance" parts from ScrappyDog Scooters..
From everything I could read, I thought I would need a 115 jet.. No idea what the stock size was because it wasn't marked. Scrappy offers the "standard" (whatever that is) and then some other sizes. Let me just say you shouldn't just assume one of those sizes will work. Open air filter and tried to "mod" my stock exhaust. That was a HUGE mistake... Ended up having to get an exhaust system off Ebay. Which of course didn't fit at all.. Lucky I have a welder and grinder... So I FINALLY get this exhaust working. Sounds like total crap because its SO loud. Sounds like a chopper. Had to weld the exhaust more because of cheap welds. Got to finally ride it to work the last 3 days and rode it around town today with my buddy and his GY6 Ruckus.
So what I want to tell you is DO NOT MOD your scooter! I was SO pissed at myself. It ran totally perfect before. All I really wanted was quicker acceleration and I could have totally taken care of that with rollers, springs and clutch... Now I have a loud scooter. Sure its faster, but for all I had to go through it was not worth it at all.. Those tires tho.. WOW! So much grip and it rides so much better. Wish I would have just put the new tires on and enjoyed them and not messed with the thing at all.

If you want I have a plan for a reasonably cheap and very quiet DIY muffler no welding needed.

Your end result is one of Complete lack of Experience and understanding what your doing. Thousands of us have had very successful Intake and Exhaust mod's. My mod was very successful gain in acceleration and mph along with mpg. 1st. the notion that you can buy one main jet and end up with Correct Jetting is Absurd, You will need Several Main's and Several Pilot jets and a Needle Jet clip position change to obtain Ideal Jetting, Hard to find any two Scoots that will take the exact same jetting. 2nd. On the Exhaust, there are many good vendors out there, Do your research and Pick up the damn phone and confirm fitment and if its a Free Flow System maybe too loud for you.

Sorry you had a bad experience with scooter mods, Tootall. The advertisements for hp parts never tell the whole story. - One of the principles of modding is to make one change and check the results before making the next mod. I have hot rod parts that I have not yet installed because I am still sorting out the ones that I have already installed. It takes time and patients. - Pod air filters normally never work well with constant velocity carbs. The vendors will not tell you that. - Modding an engine can be a bumpy road even if you buy items recommended by others. If you don't enjoy the tinkering and tuning, and you are not willing to waste some money on items that do not work as advertised, it's best to leave everything stock.

The air filter worked great. That wasn't the issue. The big problem I had was the lack of info like someone mentioned.
But what you don't know is, I read literally hundreds of threads on the different topics. I called The Ruck Shop, and tried to talk to Scrappy Dog on the phone and over Email. And EVERY answer I got was different. They sell jets in the performance section and make it seem like those would be the only sizes anyone would need.
Then frames and stands on the Chinese scoots are so different, I will bet there isn't an aftermarket system that would 100% bolt on. If I didn't have my welder I would still be messing with the dumb system. You have a number to a company that will sell a bolt on exhaust for my 2011 Dong Fang Sunny Scooter?? I highly doubt it. They all claim they fit. And thats half true. But you will have to mod something for it to work.
I have been on 4 different Forums. I have read countless posts about mods, jetting. But the info is SO RANDOM its absurd.
One person did a air filter and exhaust and claimed they ran the best with a 130 jet.. While others I have read need a 112 or 115. When you have no way to measure your stock jet, that makes it even harder. And then you get jets from vendors and they aren't marked either.
I guess what I'm saying is, I got this thing to commute and to have some weekend fun with. The slight performance I gained was not worth it being off the road for a month while I basically had to tinker with it every day. If I bought it as a little project or whatever then I wouldn't be so bent.

When I was commuting on my scoot, I didn't do any mods either. I began modding the engine when my route to work was no longer suitable for a 125cc scoot.

You say don't mod your scooter. What does your buddy with the GY6 Ruckus say?
Your stock jet is most likely between 97 and 103. If you look closely, maybe with a magnifying lens, and compare it to the others you bought you should be able to narrow it down. How about asking someone at a shop to compare it to known jets for you?
I have friends who are fans of bone stock to those who heavily modify. I still lean toward the latter.

You need to understand something about jetting, again the notion that a mod will universally take the same meeting is absurd. the only reference you need to do is get a idea what you stock jet size was and you will need At Least Four Sizes up. and you still have Not mentioned you did anything wit the Pilot or Jet Needle, so you Carb Jetting is Less that Ideal. Your Main Jet Mostly effects 1/2-full Throttle, is that the Only RPM range you ride your Scooter? You need a small handful of Pilot Jets and a Needle Jet Clip position change to complete the job. With all the variables there is No One Jets Size Fits All... As far as reading Scooter forums, There are a few of us old farts that have come full circle and in Addition to a full size M/C own a Scooter as a fun little hobby your dealing with the Least Experienced and Least Knowledgeable group I have ever come across. that may ruffle some feathers but it is what it is. Here in NC were I live its predominately 50cc Licker Sickles, you don't need a license or insurance to ride a 50cc, they are all many time DUI offenders and have lost there license so they ride a Licker Sickle, that last group I would be looking for advice from.

Here in NC were I live its predominately 50cc Licker Sickles, you don't need a license or insurance to ride a 50cc "As of July 1, 2016, North Carolina law requires that all registered mopeds have liability insurance coverage with limits no less than $30,000/$60,000/$25,000. Failure to maintain liability insurance coverage constitutes a lapse and may result in the revocation of your valid North Carolina license plate." . . source

The forums reflect similar aggravation after desecrating a GY6 engine with performance enhancements . . the results are typically less reliability and longevity.
Cylinder head temperature is one strategy to determine the most suitable jet configuration . . example.
There is no known cure for those afflicted with "just gotta tinker with it" syndrome!
Everyone has different performance criteria . . but even some of the 170cc engines may be marginal for highway travel.

Stock jet ended up being a 105. I have a 112 in it now and it is ok. No adjusting the needle on the carb it came with.
Yes I know people truck these things out all the time. But there is also a ton of miss info so even with reading and research its still hard to figure out.
Ive done mods in the past. I knew I would need to change jetting and other parts. But overall the little bit of power wasn't worth the headache. I could totally see someone with even less skills to totally mess up the scoot and would need to hire someone to fix it.
Friend with the 150 Ruck said he likes the power but was a nightmare to get his to run properly also. Still dumps fuel and oil out...

4 Different forums. Hundreds of threads and pages about intake, jetting and exhaust.. Called The Ruck shop.. No help. Called Scrappy Dog. No help. Even Emailed with him and got vague answers that were no help. Called The Rolling Wrench in Colorado.. No help.
Reading gave me jet sizes from 110 to 130. And then when you look on Scrappy Dog they have "standard" and then about 5 more sizes listed.
So makes a person think "Well I read 20 pages of people using a 115. That must be the correct one because even Scrappy sells that specific size". The info for people is so mixed its silly.
Carbs are all different in the Chinese things. Frames and center stands are different so exhaust fitment is super hard. I searched for a long time and didn't find one for my scoot. But then someone here had a link instantly.. Plus being in this small town, no shops know crap about these motors. One shop let me trade jets so I could try some out and then exchange for others.
It was very hard for me, who I think went into it with a ton of research, to make this all run well again. And its still too loud and i'm still using my stock head pipe.. Should have just put the new tires on and enjoyed it.

I should have titled my post. Please don't mod your scoot if it runs ok and you are daily driving it. Please DO mod it if you for it cheap/free.. Want to race with it.. Want to do wheelies and go fast. Its a fun little motor.
But it sure lost some of my love.. It gets worse MPG.. Loud..
