Tried vice grips, no go - the bit sticking out is connical in shape, so they slip off.
Tonight i'll try cutting a slit with my dremmel and then using a screwdriver - if that doesn't work, does one heat the case with just a propane torch?
also, thanks Devo for the website, i'll see if i can find em.
if these bolts are really too crappy to torque accuratly, should i just tighten them "nice and tight"?

So, I was putting this all together, feeling pretty good as it was going smoothly. Was torquing the head bolts (i think that is what they're called) to 18 foot pounds (216 inch pounds) as was suggested in a previous thread - and snap. see picture. So I don't know if I just don't know how to use a torque wrench or if the torque wrench is broken . . . i'll confirm that with someone . . but in the mean time, anyone know how i get the stub out and replace? thanks! [replyingto=jerseyboy]jerseyboy[/replyingto]the attached picture is of the spark plug after i took it out (and before i replaced it with a new one) i have no idea what they're supposed to look like though, so i can't tell you if it was too light or too dark. Attachments:

[replyingto=jerseyboy]jerseyboy[/replyingto]No, i've never heard any popping/backfire.
as for torque, what kind of torque wrench would you recommend?
i'll deff. read more posts on this, tried my hardest to follow instructions well last time.

[replyingto=jerseyboy]jerseyboy[/replyingto]just an estimate here, but i would say about 400 -450 miles on that. don't know if it matters, but when i took it apart there was oil under the valve cover. i can't get the valve to close any more by pushing on it.
again, I'm still learning about all of this, so please excuse the following question, which may sound rather ignorant - could this have anything to do with the jets on the carb? when I went from 50cc to 100cc i didn't do anything to them and some people have suggested that I should have . . .
thanks again,
mitch

more images: imgur.com/a/y7Ge3forgive me if I am misunderstanding - but the camshaft isn't attached to the valve in that picture, so both valves should be closed - correct? I don't see any corresponding scuff marks in the cylinder (although take a look at the pictures, it was hard to get a picture of the inside of the cylinder) this was a BBK that I installed last fall. I've ordered another one since I wasn't sure which part(s) I would need to replace and it was only $50 on ebay. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/330459445932?item=330459445932&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OC:US:3160&vxp=mtr) so you're saying I should just replace all of it? as for torque - I used a torque wrench that I picked up at an auto supply store, but it seemed to be geared to higher torque numbers than I used for this, so probably wasn't very accurate at the low end. is there a particular wrench you would recommend?

my compression was measured at 60psi, which as I understand, is too low. So I'm trying to figure out what is causing that. I tore it all apart and nothing stood out as obviously broken - but I don't really know what I'm doing - so thought I would ask for some advice. attached is a picture which shows the valves (which may or may not be closed . . .) and the piston, which had some scuffing on the top of it. I didn't know if either of these things were something to worry about. as always, your kind help is greatly appreciated. thanks, mitch Attachments:

Okay, finally gave up and took it to shop. Guy says the compression is 60psi, which is low enough that it won't start - so it looks like i need to take it all apart to see where the problem is. while i'm doing that, what should i do to make sure i dont' have problems in the future. when i added the 100cc BBK, i did not do anything to the jet sizes, should I? my mechanic said that it is possible that i didn't break it in properly after the upgrade, which he said can lead to problems . . . how exactly does one break in a BBK? Once i get it apart I'll know what I need to fix - can you fix just the piston, say, or the rings, or do i need to buy a whole new kit? this is the one i put on originally: www.ebay.com/itm/100cc-Big-Bore-Kit-139QMB-GY6-50cc-scooter-parts-gasket-/330459445932?pt=Other_Vehicle_Parts&hash=item4cf0eafaac&vxp=mtrthanks!

[replyingto=scootnwinn]scootnwinn[/replyingto]the valves were more or less correct - the exhaust may have been off by a tenth of an inch, but i adjusted them both, still nothing.
