This spring I made a posting about prepping an engine for spring and someone suggested that one of my cylinders had low compression. Well, I finally bought myself a compression tester and fond out both cylinders have really bad compression. (52psi and 48psi.)
The compression went up when I placed some oil in the cylinders, so, it appears as though the rings are not sealing. This calls for a top end rebuild, or at least new rings. I know the next step is to get the Clymer or Hayes manual and watch some U Tube videos.
But, here is my general question, what can I expect? And, what is the best approach . . . . cylinder honing, new rings, oversized pistons?
Any insight would be appreciated.

Without something like breaking a ring or a valve a sudden loss of compression is unlikely. So, your problem is either fuel or electrical. Put the bike back together and give it a shot. You cleaned the carb so if it does not start the problem would have to be electrical. With it stopping after turning at an intersection I would look for a broken wire in the headset, one that flexes when the handlebars are turned.

29,000 miles is a lot, but a Honda will last a lot longer. I would jump on that deal any day of the week and twice on Sunday. The other bikes are more because of lower mileage, they are not overpriced, the yellow one is underpriced.

Sometimes it is not that easy coming up with ideas for More Macho Monday. Sometimes I just play googling something till the idea jells. Well while googling the thought came to my mind more macho my . Well just a warning, do not google "macho " you will not find a picture of a macho donkey. Macho Donkey will work though and get you a picture like this. . .  It is a Donkey it is a scooter, pretty macho. Or, is a wood scooter more macho?  |
