So your basing your earlier statement on only the fact that it didn't start, Without knowing the reason why ? without knowing how he drives it, or even how well he maintains it ? These really are things you should know before making a blanket judgement statement don't you think ?

I'm not defending HD riders here, But their argument about loud pipes saving lives, Ill agree with.. Fawkes is quite loud after his upgrade, and at first i didn't like it.. But i did notice much bigger vehicles than me seemed to be seeing me much better, at least knowing i was there.. I can only attribute this to how loud he is.. I don't always like it, like when i see people turning around that are walking on the sidewalk because they hear me approaching... However I do like the response I'm getting from other drivers on the road.. Much safer maybe people hear louder noises before seeing bikes don't know but I've definitely seen a difference...

Really ? How good a mechanic is your neighbor ? How well has he cared for his bike.. Has he routinely pushed it beyond it's design limits ?
I walked out from my work yesterday to see a big puddle of oil under some guys Aprilla, now should I fault the owner ? Or the quality of the bike for that puddle of oil ?
Every single failure Ive had with Fawkes was my fault, either ignoring something I should not have, or doing something stupid i knew was risky to him, or pushing hard and well beyond his design limits..My 550 Kaw would not have tolerated what i put Fawkes thru..

Honestly, I like Harley's. There is even one modern HD I would own given the opportunity (XR1200). Sure, you can consider them the "status" bike, but there is a pretty wonderful culture and history behind them as well. HD occupies a place in Motorcycles that is very similar to Vespa in the scooter market. Iconic, maybe not always the best or highest performance, and priced at the top of the market with an almost fanatical owner base. Of course I'm the guy who likes and will ride pretty much anything with two wheels and an engine, so my opinion most likely doesn't matter... but hating on HD riders is just as narrow minded as HD riders hating on scooters. Matt Matt I like "almost all" bikes, from a personal standpoint some are not for me, such as crotch rockets, but they are still bikes, and I don't condemn those that ride them.. It's all about happiness to me. If it makes you happy then get on it and go.. However I have too run accrost those that feel only the Harley is a "Real Bike"... That's nuts... I ride to be happy, to save money, not to impress others. Nor em I going to pay for what some else thinks I should be riding.. If they want to pay for it for them selves fine.. I'm getting really tired of others that don't pay my bills or lend any hand what so ever in earning my money, telling me what I "MUST" spend my money on. What I "Must" do. Ill decide what I ride for myself....

As some of you read, i have a driver that insulted my scoot. WELL as i pulled into work saturday we asked (same dude) "so when are you gonna grow up and get a REAL bike?" So i asked the question "What is a real bike? AND GUESS WHAT HE SAID? "HARLEY" I got so pissed but still gotta be professional. So i "politely told him that he has no idea what a REAL bike is. AND i reminded him that im his boss. AND i educated him on HD motorcycles. But then he stated that Harley is the ONLY REAL bike!!!! I walked away!! Some people are just narrow minded, or have that ego they need to feed, nothing you can do about it. One of the guys I work with is like that. Currently his starter on his "Real Bike" is out.. So every day I see him I ask did you ride today ? Of course the answer is no. his reason is the starter is too expensive and he's saving for it... I just smile and say "I did".. And for the weekend want to be's I tell them a "Real Biker" rides his bike, it don't sit in the garage because of bad weather, it don't require dusting from sitting idle, it requires a bath because it's owner is riding it constantly... That always shuts them up...

More pep is ok and i do understand why you would want it... IMHO I would base my risk taking on the type of driving I'm doing.. Just around town is not a big deal if you break down or develop an oil leak, but if you are driving 20 or more miles one way. I would think about this carefully... I'm not trying to discourage you.. Simply giving you other things to think about before you make your decision..

Here what I'm thinking If you choose to use rtv instead of a base gasket watch it closely, a 139 only has 750 mi of oil, so when your riding any leak will be a serious one... And if one developed while your riding, you may not be aware of it until it's too late, your engine is out of oil, and your out along the roadside... If your going to use Rtv sealant make sure it's a quality one..

My fear is not that of a trust issue with the dog, it's the actions of other driver's, panic maneuvers, avoiding and driving safely can be hard enough on the scooterist let alone keeping a dog from flying off the scooter and into traffic during a panic stop or hard turn..

Pulling the base gasket and just using a head of rtv is a common practice. Also running ncy flat SS valves will help bump up compression. Be careful though too much compression will cause detonation without proper octane fuel. DX And compression above 180 can cause other damage to the engine, causing crank failure, damage to the piston... If your wanting more compression for more power it's better to just do a bbk..

Hi Jeff, Have you done a compression check to see where your engine is to begin with ?

Hi Copperdeer- I guess where ever you live there is something wrong with the weather ! Yea Id agree with that, tonight after work it was dry , on my way home I looked about 4 blocks ahead and saw a wall of water coming at me, I was not dressed for it, had my safety gear on, jeans and a long sleeved shirt, but no rain suit... Needless to say I got soaked, it continued well after i got home.. In my younger days I would have simply shook it off, but tonight it took a very hot shower and a few hours to warm back up.... Arrg it sucks getting older...

carasdad... Thank you, In all honestly I will be building Fawkes back into a stroker, guess I was spoiled. I'm not happy with his performance as an 83cc even with all the other performance mods on him, it just don't come close to as he was before.. But this time because of the other engine I have, I can take my time and do it right...
